i got mine at office depot for $199. They were out of the 16gb, so i simply asked if i could have the 32gb at the same price. The manager agreed. Worth a shot if you have a store near you that's oos of the 16gb.
Kindle Fire is not a "normal" tablet as it doesn't have microSD card slot - they want you to be using and paying for their Cloud services not being able to expand the available storage on the tablet. Also, it's "Special Offers" - displaying you annoying ads for this price.
The Nook 9" Nook HD+ has 1920 x 1,280 display and can play movies in 1,080p HD. It's also nice and light, at 515 grams, has microSD card slot, and no ads at $269 for 16 GB one.
what are data plans needed for on tablets/? I wont NEED one if i get a nexus 7 will i? or are the plans for just the 3g version? 32gb wifi I wont need one will i?
Obviously if you have wifi access there is no need to pay for 3g, not to mention 3g/LTE usually drains significantly more battery life in any device.
I'm just saying if you were going to get one of these two tablets the cell carriers plan choices are pretty much identical except for the yearly option on the new kindle.
Another point of interest: the nexus 7 has gps without the need for 3g signal. I was the driver at the time but my passenger using a Nexus 7 told me it was tracking our trip and they had the wifi only version. No idea if the Kindle has this.
Since I am in an Amazon taxes state I got the 16gb wifi model PM'd at Best Buy today. Combine that with the $20 statement credit from AMEX for purchase of $200 or more at BB from now until 12/29, for an effective price of $229+tax.
