I had the older model of this camera about one year ago (Tx-10). The image quality is good but it got a crack near a corner without any dropping (no water resistance anymore), I think its plastic quality has problem.

Have this camera - took it to Bora Bora on our honeymoon and it worked amazing in the water... Great buy

Amazing, same problem for me. It was in my jacket pocket and the corner got chipped. If you do decide to pick this up, be careful with it. I mainly got it because of its compact size. I was impressed with the macro quality for a point and shoot.

I have the tx-10 also and have used the heck out of it. I also have cracked the plastic bezel around the screen but mine has not leaked. I have dropped it to many times to count and have found out that the rest of the body is indeed metal. I take apr 1,000 pictures a week and this thing is easy to use with one hand and the lens is a piece of cake to wipe clean. I usually get a new camera every year but this one is still going strong. I will buy another one as a back-up. It has a small form factor and is super easy to use . I use to worry when I dropped it but it’s never failed. Great camera and good price. The only “down side” is it uses a proprietary battery to keep the size down, so I just carry 2 batteries and a car charger [ which cost very little at amazon].

I would say this camera is pretty durable except for the fact that the camera lens is having difficulties focusing now after a year at startup.

Before that, its been a great camera. The picture is pretty good for any camera, and the fact that it can be taken anywhere just adds to its effect. I would recommend this new line of waterproof cameras to anyone, especially those wanting max portability.

I had the TX10 and was extremely happy with it. I payed a lot more than this but it was a while back. No issues with chips or durability. My family ended up stealing it since they liked it so much so I'm buying this one. Thanks OP!

this seems competitor to the panny lumix ts-20. lumix is cheaper at around $120 and specs are similar except sony has better ISO.

Thoughts? Been shopping for my first waterproof cam and would probably use mainly around the pool, maybe beach - want something rugged so the kid cant break it...

is it as good as Canon S100?

I've owned a Sony TX-7 and a TX-9 and found them both to be very good. They are very small and easy to carry and have a huge touch screen in the rear. They also take very good pictures and 1080p HD video too. I assume the TX-20 is probably even better since it is newer.

Now I don't know anything about the S100 and I'm sure its a wonderful camera but a little info to backup the above claim would be useful to us who don't know anything about the S100.

For example, is the Canon S100 waterproof, dustproof, and shock-proof like this one?

Its a nice rugged camera for the money...until the seals leak or the battery cover pops open.
