I am, in no way, an Apple fan. When it comes to price, they are pricey. For this model, it actually isn't that bad. They placed a Full Sized i5-3210m with 8 gb ram, a 128 ssd, and a 2560x1600 screen, and kept it all under 4 pounds while still using aluminum. The closest comparison windows has is the Sony s 15. 1080p screen, with 8gb and 750gb hdd for $1200. If you can get the MBP Ret for under 1500, it is actually a reasonable deal.

Lastly, and you probably recall as you seem to be an Apple fan, that prior to Apple switching over to Intel processors, Apple barred their customers from installing Windows on their systems. When they switched over to the industry standard, Intel, they were able to have their hardware compatible with Windows software. Windows on the other hand, does not have that restriction on the software (and to a lesser degree, hardware). They've made it very easy to people to partition their Windows drives and install other operating systems on the machines (eg. Linux). Unfortunately, they've (Apple) still locked down their OS pretty tightly, so that Windows PCs can't install OSX on them (unless you have a hackinstoshable netbook or its equivalent). |

Of course I know that Mac has been using Intel processors for the past 7 years. Not something that they just started recently. 7 Yrs in computer years is a ton of time. I don't care that I couldn't run windows back on the PPC architect, I've only made the move toward Apple hardware since 2009. My office software still only runs on Windows, my server is a dell, I used to buy only Dells. I got tired of 90 days warranty with hardware that would break, motherboards that would fry, fans that were louder than my drills! Not to mention the cheap plastic build quality. Power cords that bend and fray. Granted I got them for $599-699, but would need to replace it every 2-3 yrs. Since I moved over to Macbooks, the trackpad is a dream, the power cord is magnet and rips away without pulling the laptop to the ground, the screen is nice and vivid, and the aluminum body is solid as a rock. I run both Windows and Mac OS. I also get a 1 yr warranty that I can just bring it to an actual store to get it fixed if anything becomes an issue. Never had one on any of my 3. Running a hackintosh on laptop's are a joke. First you have to spend a ton of time to see which Laptop has the best possible compatible hardware. You can't update without worrying about knocking out your sound card or ethernet. Then you have to remember all the Multibeast settings and such. Believe me, I've ran a dell mini 9 and 10 both as a hackintosh. I built a desktop hackintosh I love and got everything working perfectly, but the laptop's are a different story completely. Then I'm at the mercy of Tonymacx86 to get me new drivers for the then OS. No thank you, I don't have time for that anymore. Regardless, I am in the market right now for a Retina (2560 by 1440 PPI) laptop today, please show me one I can buy for the cheaper. Last edited by smiledrs; 12-10-2012 at 10:20 AM.. |

2. When Apple starts to make servers, then I think introducing your Dell units into the equation is a fair comparison. 3. Are you buying refurbs that only give you 90 day warranties? Why are you comparing refurbs to new units? 4. I'd gladly pay $699 for a piece of hardware that will die in two years that I will replace again for $699 (or less) with updated technology and specs than to keep a four year old device I paid $1400 for. I don't even know why anyone would not take that deal. 5. The point I was trying to make from you earlier post where you ranted about being able to find a PC that is hackinstoshable, is that Windows itself isn't preventing you from doing that. All of the restrictions are off the OSX side. If Apple freely let PC owners install OSX on their machines (just as Microsoft has no qualms with people running Windows on bootcamp), then you're going to see a huge influx of people buying PCs and dual-booting OSX on it. A significant amount of students would switch over, as well as the cost-conscious (a lot of these individuals are just putting up with higher prices on a Mac because they don't have an alternative, especially if they're not remotely tech-savvy). |
