that being said the reason to not get one this large is because these are designed to brew coffee not hold it for extended periods of time. ideally you don't want to leave the grounds with the finished product over brewing the rest while you drink, even when fully plunged. |

To those who asked, you can use *ANYTHING* in a French Press. Coffee, Tea, Bacon. Whatever you want your drink of choice to taste like.
I regularly use Coffee and Tea together in mine. Tea first, wait ten minutes and then either strain it out and clean it and add the liquid back to make Coffee with it, or just add the Coffee later after the Tea has ten minutes or so. Most Tea says steeping time is less than five minutes, but remember that you cannot keep the water at boiling in this thing. So it takes longer to make it as strong. I still greatly prefer the FPs that are made with the same borosilicate glass and a plastic lining/frame since you can put those in the microwave and reheat the water whenever you want. (Minus the metal parts like the screen and press rod obviously.) |

The first French Press I purchased was a low-cost Mr Coffee one, but it lasted for years. Ultimately, the glass beaker fell victim to a collision with the faucet/sink while rinsing. The replacement of the same brand was similar, except the bottom of the filter part and the shoulder that covers where the rod screws into said part were plastic. Metal screwing into cheap plastic is a relationship doomed for failure; it was not a full year before the filter started separating from the rod occasionally when unplunging the filter to clean the unit. I looked around at many presses before finding one (it is Bodum) that was all-metal construction, shielded the glass well, and had the capacity I desired, and didn't break the bank. tl:dr version: this looks to be a solid French Press. The Bodum Brazil line (at least the ones I checked out at Target) and other cheaper French Presses often have plastic as part of the construction of the filter piece, which can wear out over time from the metal rod threading into it.
