Finally used my $200 costco giftcard. When I got there they had a promotion that if you signed up for their executive membership (which costs $55 but you get 2% credit for every purchase) they guaranteed at least the payback of that $55 at the end of year. If you then also apply for the AMEX card, AMEX will credit you the $55 as well on the first statement plus you get 2 extra months of membership.
Having said that, the store I went to (the Saturday before the Superbowl) was so busy that even my wife wanted to leave after a while and she is a shopaholic. Also their gas price was the same as any gas station on the highway. With the gift card and goodies this was a good deal for me, but I doubt I will renew my membership next year. (costco is just not very well represented in the state of CO, only a few around Denver and the Colorado Springs area). |

I was playing around with it tonight. I was getting a $10 fee per month for just HD with no autopay discount. For a Genie I was getting a $25-$10 autopay. For SD nothing. Plus a $5 per for 12 months promo. And ultimate and above were $5 off per. Not sure how that has changed from recently. |

SAME tired rehashed weak offer from Directv. Had them for 11 years and got tired of there pss poor customer service and the Normal BS as in the new guy gets all the deals,oh yeah I went to war every year to get what I could.Like most Always Afraid to take the leap and SWITCH to the other guys, you know Dish. Well I did switch and I couldn't be happier. Directv has Nothing repeat Nothing to offer that is better or has an advantage over Dish.
Dish is cheaper and customer service is %1000 better.Don't put up with directv's BS take a chance switch, you'll be glad that you did ! Just a public service announcement on Directv's #1 cheerleader's thread. Someone needs to tell the other side. |

It appears this deal is $5 less beneficial than it was just a short while ago. DTV has raised the price of the "DVR Service/Advanced Receiver Service" Fee to $5 higher than it was recently.
There was a $20 DVR/Advanced fee w/ a $10 monthly credit for 20 months (if memory serves). The $10 credit still exists for the fee, but the "regular price" of the fee is now $25. Here is a convo I had w/ them online today: Mike: Hi, I'm a DIRECTV order specialist. What questions can I answer for you about choosing new services? Mike: Just let me know if you need any help. You: Yes hi. Did the prices go up $5 for the advanced receiver fee? I was just looking into doing DTV last week, this appears different? Mike: I would be happy to answer your question regarding monthly pricing. Mike: Yes, you are correct. You: Why the price increase? Mike: This is as per company policy. You: Well OK then. The only thing good I can say is yes it is slightly cheaper and their DVR is better/faster than DirectTV. Having said all this I will switch back to Dish in a heart beat if DirectTV stops giving me deals.

Just wanted to add some color to my situation in canceling (and then reordering in my wife's name)
When I canceled, I tried my best to get retentions to come up with a deal to match the Costco deal. They were able to offer me a $200 gift card and close to the same monthly price without entering a new contract. I accepted this. However as we went further through the call I realized I was not being offered the full Genie product (they were offering the Genie server but I'd have to use my existing boxes as clients, not the small new Genie clients). So in the end I just said go ahead and cancel. But it looks like it was two transactions - I got the first deal without extending, and then canceled it pretty much immediately. I just got my GC for $200 ![]() Furthermore... turns out the old receivers I have sell for $40-50 each on ebay, and I have three of them. So this has ended up being a screaming good deal
