Opening new business end of 2012-tax quesiton
Hi all,
I am in midst of starting up a business and ready to go full steam ahead but may have a tax dilemma. I would like to get everything ready for the business to open at the beginning of the year - however how do I go about deducting all the expenses that were attributed to setting up the business ie renovations, equipment purchasing, etc., etc. if the corporation is formed and all the costs with starting up the business are done before the end of the year (2012) and no income has been generated? Seems like I would be losing out some major deductions unless I form the business at the beginning of the new year. My current clients are suggesting I start up asap, but they obviously aren't concerned with my tax issues. Thoughts? I can be up and running in 3 weeks and will have about $20,000 total expenses before December 31, 2012. I work for a company now and don't itemize. I'm venturing out on my own for this. Also this will be in another state other than where I live now. Thanks in advance.

PS. Yes, I will consult a tax accountant asap, but you'd be surprised how helpful many can be on this site!! It's not just about the deals!
