I'd guess they went with the base-line XPS 13. The lowest i've seen so far is $829 scratch and dent. The only real difference between the models is CPU and Storage. Personally, I'm slightly biased torwards the XPS because of the build materials..
Depending on the deal you got for the giftcards, total out of pocket cost can be as low as $305 for the XPS13; now that's slick

picked up a s&d xps 13 for $829 before coupon and gift cards.
Seems like a decent price for a decent machine.

Why is no one mentioning stacking the egift card deal. Buy a $500 egift card, get $90 back. The cheapest refurb xps 13 is $608 after 30% off. Minus the $90 you get from the gift card = $518.

Thanks. I tend to only buy business-level laptops because they are more well-built and the parts they use are better. I use my laptop for work and I want it to be stable and last for years, so low-cost consumer-level laptops have always scared me a little.

Haha, you're preaching to the choir, man.. If it puts your mind at ease, quite a few of my friends were issued XPS 13's by their IT(which is a first, considering they normally issue latitudes). Their jobs are pretty high profile, by the way; so serviceability, and functionality is a must.

They are not supposed to if you're referring to the Win8 upgrade.

Although mine's is not supposed to be refurbished it was still an outlet buy. They didn't offer it I just went on the upgrade page and put in my info.

At 518$ I'm very tempted to buy one of the XPS13" but I can't tell if its worth it or not. I've been in the market for an ultrabook for the last two weeks and this is the first time "deal" that I'd actually call a deal.

It's pretty glaring.

But it doesn't bother me. I just keep it out of direct sunlight. My only real gripe is lack of connection ports. Would have at least liked to see a card reader. And my bad for not getting the bigger drive. 128 gigs with only 80 gigs of usable space.

I went ahead and bit the bullet and installed windows 8. Honestly, it was made for windows 8. Even with the lower res screen it looks good. You will be surprised at how small this thing is. It's smaller than the average 13 inch ultrabook. Not the thinnest but just tiny all around. I love it. Super portable. With Windows 8 it almost feels like a tablet. But of course no touch screen. I'm loving it more and more.

these xps ultrabooks are so grossly overpriced. i think it's a decent deal with the gift card bonus, but it's kind of eh to me.

Not bad, after all coupons, discounts, AMEX, CA tax. I paid about $458 out the door for an i5 XPS 13

I agree. Check out the refurb Samsung Ultrabooks at Cowboom. They are so much nicer than anything Dell puts out.
