I see X230 models with twist+touch screens. Is that an option not part of this posting or do all X230 have twist+touch screens?

I see now. This doesn't have a touch-screen. Was about to jump on it, but its just a mini laptop

Please excuse my ignorance, how does this compare to the twist S230U [staples.com] I got from Staples BF deal for $699? I know they are different lines and it's like comparing apples to oranges but I wonder if I should return the S230U for this.
Depends on the features you're looking for. The S230U has a micro processor i5 vs the x230 regular i5 processor (regular i5 is faster then micro processor). The S230U has 5.5hr battery the x230 has 6-7hr battery life w/ 6 cell. The S230 is tablet pc w/ touch screen but x230 is not touch screen (big difference there and main reason to get one over the other). Finally the x230 has a weight of 2.96lbs w/ a 4 cell battery and around 3.4lbs w/ a 6 cell and the S230U is around 3.5lbs. Hope this helps.

If you find an IPS 1080p 12-14" laptop for this price, feel free to inform us all. I'll definitely buy one.
I think the last one got sold here lol..only if it could be upgraded to an i5 or i7...
http://67.214.227.38/~thinkpad/fo...11&t=89424
kidding. btw my dell inspiron in year 2002 had a 1600x1200 IPS panel ($900 upgrade lol,). but you are right and this is what irks me, not having that option in year 2012 certainly is not acceptable. i was starting to get used to this 1366x768 resolution actually.

again great deal for an excellent lappy.

Thanks so much!! That really helps. I didn't even know that mine is micro processor and that it's slower then regular i5 (I hope it's not that significant). However, I do enjoy the touch screen feature of S230U. I am not sure if I like the "twist" part though but I guess I will keep it then. Thanks again.

^^ Registered as alamo employee, still cannot see the $600 pricing. Help?
I can easily see it.. After you add to the cart it actually only reflects the original price.. You need to manually enter the coupon and it will reflect the new price... Put a screen shot if it is not working..

No problem. The difference should not be significant if you use your pc for regular internet browsing and video, media dl, upload. Micro-processors are made to keep ultrabooks cooler and have better battery life unforuntately many manufacturers don't really make good ultrabooks and you end up with ultrabooks w/ worse battery life and weighing more than some better regular notebooks. But with this specific example these pc's compare decently and the main reason to go with one vs the other would be the tablet/ touch screen S230U which btw would utilise Windows 8 better than the x230, or the x230 for slightly better processor and battery life (which can be BUILT to have close to 24HRS BATTERY LIFE with combo of 9cell battery combined with the lenovo battery 19+ slice which is a base extra battery increasing battery life to a ridiculious 24hrs!!!). And Reps are always welcome =)

The problem with most manufacturers is their unwillingness to provide IPS panels.. If you take this X230 the difference between IPS and non-IPS is negligible ($35). So I do not understand if it is that difficult to do a IPS panel.

This is for people looking at additional options.. I ordered the T430 instead during the BF sale which gives me the higher resolution, more manageable display size and a matte screen. The only missing piece was the IPS panel but I am not going to bend my screen by 100 - 180 degrees to ensure my colors are viewable.. It was slightly expensive by $20 but has everything else.. Works fine and I am much happier. If you are interested in the slim factor then you can get the T430s for $100 more.

I am with you, and i also love my heart Samsung NP300. (i have not gotten the extended battery, so battery life is not so great, but i usually use it at home, so not an issue)

I have both Samsung NP300 (also got it at 250usd + about a year ago) which i use everyday for personal matters, and i also have a HP 2560P which is similar to x230.

personally, i don't think x230 is twice as good as NP300, but x230 has it own advantages as my HP 2560P (mostly business purposes) such as
1. longer battery option (9cell + slicer -> 15+ hours)
2. built-in boardband/WWAN option (with smartphones available readily -- not so important)
3. docking option (with a lock option)-- important for the business uses
4. service options (longer term/next day/accident)
5. tougher built
6. no webcam/mic option
7. optical drive option (also you can add additional harddisk drive)
8. built-in smart card option
9. more expandable -- express card, secondary miniPCIe slot, two memory slot
10. easier to service/manageable (easy to remove hdd etc & preboot environment, network bootability, etc)

if you are looking for a business solution, i would not choose Samsung NP300, but if i am to get a personal solution, Samsung NP300 is a great solution.
thanks for the info, I have a np300, and while i loved it at first the wifi mis-connection issues make it impossible to use as a biz comp on the go. The battery life is horrible.
Plus using it for travel it has gotten quite beaten up, looks like crap now and has had numerous failures and annoying issues. Might be fine at home but i would not recommend taking it on the road.
That being said any help with resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated. Esp the battery life and wifi issues.... thanks!

I figure i'd post very important battery information for the x230. So I looked every where for battery info such as weight added to x230 for 4cell vs 6cell vs 9 cell and the approx battery life before recharging. Here's what I've gathered:

First here's what lenovo says about the different cell's:
4 cell (29 Wh) − up to 8.9 hrs
6 cell (63 Wh) − up to 9.9 hrs
9 cell (94 Wh) − up to 14.8 hrs
6 cell (57 Wh) Slice Battery − up to 24.9 hrs with 9 cell and 6 cell slice

Obviously those numbers are very exaggerated. More realistic numbers are as follows along w/ weight of x230 with the diff battery cell:

4 cell - 4-5 hrs (+/- an hr depending on use), 2.96lbs
6 cell - 6-7 hrs (+/- an hr depending on use), 3.4lbs
9 cell - 9-11 hrs(+/- 90 mins depending on use), 3.8lbs

As for the extra battery slice I believe realistically gives at least 20+ hrs battery life combined with 9 cell. The ThinkPad Battery 19+ slice weighs 1.66lbs so that would make the x230 weigh in some where around 3.96lbs (4lbs) which is excellent since you'd be getting so much battery life out of a machine that weighs LESS than some "ultrabooks".
There you go guys =)
