Well, the default "power control" widget that comes with android allows for toggling the wifi; I've put that on the home page.

I'm also trying an app that is supposed to periodically check the wifi and toggle the connection if it can't connect to the internet. https://play.google.com/store/app....wififixer

While I'm at it, anybody know of an app to automatically reboot an Android device on a schedule? I'm planning on setting up my parents with one of these, but it's still a little too unstable to give to them, so I was thinking maybe rebooting it once a day would help?

You'll need to be rooted for that for sure... Giving a program a permission to reboot is a security threat.

Pretty much the same numbers I have been getting - also:

Streaming 1080p mkv from NAS over woreless n - 2.3W to 2.8W with spikes to 3.2W

XBMC main GUI - 3.6W to 4.2W but dropped to ~ 1.5W in "Videos" and other sections

XBMC - Streaming (SD) DVD rips (MKV) from NAS - 2.2W to 2.4W with some dips and spikes to 3.4W

Main MX2 UI - playing around switching screens - around 2.4W spiking up to 3.4W

I just tested with my PowerGen 8400mAh battery pack and it worked great, I played with it for about an hour and it didn't even make a dent in the power level, I suspect it would last like 12 to 24 hours.

Actually my WiFI locked up today for the first time and I had to reset. I might get a USB 2.0 to LAN adapter as this is going to end up right near my Router and Switch anyway.

If you go that route my research shows that you should go with an adapter running the ASIX AX88772 chipset for best results.

I didn't see any free ones, I probably should have looked harder.

You are absolutely correct. You MUST ROOT to access the Reboot function in Android. If an app says you don't need to Root then it does not actually turn the device off and restart. I should have stated that.

Thanks for all the pointers to the rebooting apps... this sounds like a good reason to root the device

You need to register to download the files you need.

It was pretty straight forward once I got my computer to actually recognize the MX2 was attached.

Haha, what a novel idea.. Bring the device with you around to friends/family, and bring a 2A 5000mah battery pack with you

Did anyone get the remote app to work? I installed, but it does not seem to do anything?

I bought the MX2. tried to hook it up with the Toshiba Canvo external hard drive 3.0 & 2.0 1TB. the external HD made clicking noises and didnt work.
have any one seen this kind of problems before?
it'd be suck if it wouldnt work with external hd
