iMito MX1 and MX2 Owner's Thread

APhamX 529 December 11, 2012 at 07:00 PM in Computers (3)
So many people have purchased the MX1 and MX2 android stick devices and I was planning on starting a thread with helping people with their new devices. Also I plan on showing you guys cool things I find and you guys can post things in the wiki for things you found as well. I will try to update this, but I'm hoping it will be run by a community like the HP Touchpad thread.

I currently own an iMito MX2
- Using K400 Logitech Mouse/Keyboard
- Wireless N With WPA/WPA2 (Works flawlessly, no connection issues so far)
- 1080p60

I'm currently still looking for a way to easily navigate it as like an htpc, maybe there's an app or firmware out there that is meant for this.

Installing Flash On Your iMito NO ROOTING REQUIRED

There are APK's of past dolphin browser APK's that allow flash that you can look into. (I haven't personally tested this myself)

Flash APK [xda-developers.com]

Firefox Beta [google.com]

Dolphin Browser HD APK [xda-developers.com]
Other Cool Apps

Nova Launcher
Music Visualizer

FAQ

Q: How do I set the device resolution?
You have to click on the top thing on the right, go to settings, and scroll to screen. On the right it will show you HDMI OUTPUT, there select your output resolution.

I heard Rockchip is also working on a app similar like 'droidmote" but totally free. you can control your mx1/mx2 tv stick with the android smartphone. Does anyone know where to download this app?

Download RKRemoteControl V1.1.0 (29.11.2012) [rikomagic-forum.de]

Evo, it's best you just ignore _____ . I'd also suggest editing your post to remove anything related to ____ and posting related info to the topic, the MX1/MX2. Leaving your post up there is inviting trouble.

I only joined these threads because I'm genuinely interested in the product.
Sadly, a lot of info gets lost because they get shut down.
Even the new MK809 thread got shut down.
So we try to keep this one on topic, eh? Stick Out Tongue

Has anyone completed the firmware update? If so, how do you turn the device back on after you've used the standby function?

I have had to unplug the unit and plug it back in to restart - which sucks ..... unless I am missing something.

My bluetooth and wireless devices wouldn't wake it (no big surprise - but I tried a wired USB keyboard and that wouldn't wake it either.

Also, once I select the button to hide the notification bar I haven't found a way to bting the notification bar back without restarting the unit. Again, maybe I am missing something - I haven't spent that much time trying to figure that part out.

If you click your remote at the very bottom of the screen, you can get the notification bar to pop back up. But I can't find a way to turn it on.

It's not just clicking at the bottom, you have to "swipe up" with the mouse, starting at the bottom edge of the screen -- took me a couple of tries to figure it out.

I don't think there is a way to turn the device back on once you turn it off. I suppose it's really just there in case people are squeamish about not shutting it down properly?

Ahh - I had previously tried clicking around the bottom but I did not "swipe" up - Thanks!

I think you may be right and it actually Turns the device OFF and doesn't just put it into a sleep state. It would have been nice but I will probably just leave it on 24/7 like I do my phone.

I will Root it when I get a chance and that should at least provide "Reboot" functionality with an app in case it starts acting weird.

About the stand off feature. I came to realize that the app in the app store (i literally just downloaded "Screen Off and Lock") and it goes to what I believe is a standby mode) My K400 wakes up the device (no bootup time which shoes the imito logo) and works.

My first thought was that that app wouldn't really do anything vs. just leaving it on - but I was wrong.

I took some quick readings with my Kill-A-Watt Meter and the results were:

ON and idle - 1.2W to 1.3W

OFF but plugged in (using Factory shutdown button) - 1.2W to 1.3W

"SCREEN OFF AND LOCK" App - .9W to 1.1W

I never would have guessed those results, lol.

If anyone is interested I can post some more power draw figures under varying usage scenarios tomorrow - I need to get some sleep now.

I'll Continue with this.

Standard = 1080p, wifi, and bluetooth receiver plugged in

Booting takes 2.2W to 2.7W
ON and idle 1080p with live wallpaper, wi-fi,bluetooth and bluetooth receiver - 1.7~1.8W
ON and idle 1080p with live wallpaper - 1.5W-1.6W
Youtube Video 1080p, Standard - 2.1W-3.0W
Playing Music Through Spotify, Standard - 1.5W-1.7W (initial was 1.9, then lowered after 4 seconds. Downloading file I guess)

Will test more later. Looking at this power usage.. I'm questioning.. Can I get a 2A battery pack and plug this device in it? I would probably get a good 3-8 hours on it right? o-o 1-2inch usb cable and I'm good to go.

What kind of Kill-a-watt do you guys have? The one I've got only measures down to whole watts, and mine reads 4-5 watts idling which spikes up to 7-8 watts occasionally (but youtube streaming takes about 5 watts).

In any case, 5 watts isn't enough to make me all that concerned about the power it draws -- 120 watts a day is like a penny or two for power a day.

Strange, that's the same model I have... oh well, I don't know why we're getting such different readings then.

My wifi locked up again this morning requiring me to toggle it on/off to get it to work again. I may think about getting a USB ethernet adapter if this keeps happening. It's pretty annoying to be streaming something only to have it stop in the middle, argh!

I may just be the lucky one. My wifi has been working perfectly fine so far. Maybe it's an issue with router security settings?

Would that cause it to work fine for a couple days straight, then suddenly stop working? I suspect a driver issue myself.

I was already AES/TKIP, but I guess I can try no security (my router will throw up a login page, so it's not totally unsecured...)

EDIT: And I think you are lucky Stick Out Tongue.
