iMito MX1 and MX2 Owner's Thread

APhamX 529 December 11, 2012 at 07:00 PM in Computers (3)
So many people have purchased the MX1 and MX2 android stick devices and I was planning on starting a thread with helping people with their new devices. Also I plan on showing you guys cool things I find and you guys can post things in the wiki for things you found as well. I will try to update this, but I'm hoping it will be run by a community like the HP Touchpad thread.

I currently own an iMito MX2
- Using K400 Logitech Mouse/Keyboard
- Wireless N With WPA/WPA2 (Works flawlessly, no connection issues so far)
- 1080p60

I'm currently still looking for a way to easily navigate it as like an htpc, maybe there's an app or firmware out there that is meant for this.

Installing Flash On Your iMito NO ROOTING REQUIRED

There are APK's of past dolphin browser APK's that allow flash that you can look into. (I haven't personally tested this myself)

Flash APK [xda-developers.com]

Firefox Beta [google.com]

Dolphin Browser HD APK [xda-developers.com]
Other Cool Apps

Nova Launcher
Music Visualizer

FAQ

Q: How do I set the device resolution?
You have to click on the top thing on the right, go to settings, and scroll to screen. On the right it will show you HDMI OUTPUT, there select your output resolution.

Would that cause it to work fine for a couple days straight, then suddenly stop working? I suspect a driver issue myself.

I was already AES/TKIP, but I guess I can try no security (my router will throw up a login page, so it's not totally unsecured...)

EDIT: And I think you are lucky Stick Out Tongue.
But another alternative I guess is to get a wifi toggle wigit on your home page, easier to restart wifi that way. I wonder if there is an app that periodically restarts your wifi? Maybe that will help?

Well, the default "power control" widget that comes with android allows for toggling the wifi; I've put that on the home page.

I'm also trying an app that is supposed to periodically check the wifi and toggle the connection if it can't connect to the internet. https://play.google.com/store/app....wififixer

While I'm at it, anybody know of an app to automatically reboot an Android device on a schedule? I'm planning on setting up my parents with one of these, but it's still a little too unstable to give to them, so I was thinking maybe rebooting it once a day would help?

You'll need to be rooted for that for sure... Giving a program a permission to reboot is a security threat.

I'll Continue with this.

Standard = 1080p, wifi, and bluetooth receiver plugged in

Booting takes 2.2W to 2.7W
ON and idle 1080p with live wallpaper, wi-fi,bluetooth and bluetooth receiver - 1.7~1.8W
ON and idle 1080p with live wallpaper - 1.5W-1.6W
Youtube Video 1080p, Standard - 2.1W-3.0W
Playing Music Through Spotify, Standard - 1.5W-1.7W (initial was 1.9, then lowered after 4 seconds. Downloading file I guess)
Pretty much the same numbers I have been getting - also:

Streaming 1080p mkv from NAS over woreless n - 2.3W to 2.8W with spikes to 3.2W

XBMC main GUI - 3.6W to 4.2W but dropped to ~ 1.5W in "Videos" and other sections

XBMC - Streaming (SD) DVD rips (MKV) from NAS - 2.2W to 2.4W with some dips and spikes to 3.4W

Main MX2 UI - playing around switching screens - around 2.4W spiking up to 3.4W

Will test more later. Looking at this power usage.. I'm questioning.. Can I get a 2A battery pack and plug this device in it? I would probably get a good 3-8 hours on it right? o-o 1-2inch usb cable and I'm good to go.
I just tested with my PowerGen 8400mAh battery pack and it worked great, I played with it for about an hour and it didn't even make a dent in the power level, I suspect it would last like 12 to 24 hours.

What kind of Kill-a-watt do you guys have? The one I've got only measures down to whole watts, and mine reads 4-5 watts idling which spikes up to 7-8 watts occasionally (but youtube streaming takes about 5 watts).

In any case, 5 watts isn't enough to make me all that concerned about the power it draws -- 120 watts a day is like a penny or two for power a day.
I also have the P4400 Kill A Watt Meter (maybe you have a slightly earlier version??)

Strange, that's the same model I have... oh well, I don't know why we're getting such different readings then.

My wifi locked up again this morning requiring me to toggle it on/off to get it to work again. I may think about getting a USB ethernet adapter if this keeps happening. It's pretty annoying to be streaming something only to have it stop in the middle, argh!
Actually my WiFI locked up today for the first time and I had to reset. I might get a USB 2.0 to LAN adapter as this is going to end up right near my Router and Switch anyway.

If you go that route my research shows that you should go with an adapter running the ASIX AX88772 chipset for best results.

" Again, ROOT PERMISSION IS REQUIRED TO RUN THIS APP!"

There are free alternatives, but you just need to root.

I didn't see any free ones, I probably should have looked harder.

You are absolutely correct. You MUST ROOT to access the Reboot function in Android. If an app says you don't need to Root then it does not actually turn the device off and restart. I should have stated that.

Thanks for all the pointers to the rebooting apps... this sounds like a good reason to root the device Stick Out Tongue

I just rooted My MX2.

For anyone interested in Rooting their MX2 - I followed the instructions Here: http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtec...f=76&t=448

You need to register to download the files you need.

It was pretty straight forward once I got my computer to actually recognize the MX2 was attached.

Have fun! Smilie

Disclaimer: I have rooted many devices and never had a problem but there are always risks. Having ROOT access gives you the power to do wonderful things to make your device more enjoyable and also stupid things which may make your device inoperable. Any choices you make are your responsibility.

Haha, what a novel idea.. Bring the device with you around to friends/family, and bring a 2A 5000mah battery pack with you Stick Out Tongue

Did anyone get the remote app to work? I installed, but it does not seem to do anything?
EDIT: duh - you need to upgrade the firmware first...

Ha Ha, Yeah, I did not find the remote app very enjoyable to use. I have one of those small Chinese Bluetooth keyboard touchpad things (iPassport?) It doesn't work that well either - it either loses connection or sometimes when I type one letter, like "x" it will type "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" , I have a Logitech wireless mouse that works really well and I have a Logitech k700 keyboard on the way. I think that will take care of my input needs.

Is that external hard drive Self-powered? If it is Bus powered I would think that the MX2 might not be supplying enough power to it over USB.
