Another Rosewill Mechanical Keyboard deal (MX Reds) - $54.99 shipped

Picked one up because I've been using an RK-9000RE at work and I've been wanting one at home as well.

I heard that the 2012 batches of RK-9000s have "fixed" micro-usb connectors but my board is from 2011 so I cannot confirm nor deny.

I should be getting mine this week so I'll try to report back.

Thank you. I've been really nervous about picking up one of these due to those problems a lot of people were having. Hoping they finally fixed it.

Got the same keyboard and same price about 2 weeks ago. It was manufactured in 2012 and the USB connection should be soldered better than some of the 2011 made ones.

The keyboard is brand new and it was software tested and passed. One of the interesting when I looked at the shipping label, it was shipped by the RMA office. All indication was that it was a brand new one, full working device. I have no complaint so far and I am happy with the price and quality.

Lately I have been getting Filco, Das, CM quickfire, Rosewill and Razer Ultimate keyboards. This is more or less try everything out. Filco has a small edge in terms of quality, mostly very subtle with a paid attention detail, and all keycaps perfectly aligned. CM quickfire is the truck, compares to Filco, just not as refined. One of the Rosewill had to return for poor connection, I could not get it worked at all. On one of these, one key was not pushed in all the way. The same with Das. The quality of Razer is an entirely different category. One of the key got stuck, it was mainly because of the keycap that was made too tight. There are a few keycaps not aligned straight, this is minor. It just doesn't feel right.

The price is great. I may get another one and use it as Christmas present.

Ordered one. My kid keeps breaking keys on the crappy Logitech cordless keyboards. Hope this one holds up better.

My personal experience, the two razers (not ultimate) I have have been perfection, the two rosewill boards slightly less so, and my CM a little funky and more than a little pingy. My perception of the razer bw could be influenced by most of my mechanical experience being on them as I use them for work.

Okay, got my board today. After unpacking it, thoroughly smelling it (I gotta take a good whiff of my keyboards or any of my electronics before I put them on duty), checking the aesthetics, and plugging it in, I can confirm my board works.

I should have brought home my old one so I could compare >_< but here's the one thing I notice different right off the bat:
The micro usb connector looks larger and more rigid than the last one.

Also, the braided cable seems to be less annoying (though I did flex it back and forth a bit to "break" it in)

The connector can still kind of wobble back and forth, but only as much as say a USB cable inside a computer.

Overall I THINK this is fixed. The port seems slightly more recessed too, perhaps they did that so the casing around the connector can fit inside like a puzzle piece to prevent it from putting too much stress on the micro usb connector.

Another note, I love the feel of the board. When my old one got delivered, it felt a bit powdery all around. This one, barely. SO SMOOTH. Oh Cherry MX Reds are so buttery smooth

I purchased the non-illuminated one on cyber monday. It had the same mini usb problems. Returned it earlier this week for a refund.

Still no shipping to the same states as before [i.e. IL], if anyone was wondering ...

The reason it was shipped by the RMA office is that if you rejected the order, or it got marked "return to sender", it would go directly to the RMA office. Many companies do that, and I think it is a smart idea.

Where is the definition of which switches are which? I have a few IBM M keyboards at home - wondering if this is better (hard to find PS/2 adapters, since my Thinkpad no longer has PS/2 ports - not even the docking stations).
