Shun Premier 4" Paring Knife $59.95 FS

They had the 8" premier for $100 for several months - Shun tends to do that. You're right, the rest of them have stayed expensive.

It'd be had for me to mentally justify paying the same price for the 6" as the 8". Plus I have a 6" Wusthof Classic Ikon that I like quite a bit.

What's the difference between the Classic and the Premier for Shun? Just the look? As far as I can tell the specs are the same.

Save your money and buy one or two Forschner or Victorinox paring knives. Spend the money you'll save by not falling for a $50 'Shun' paring knife on a good quality chef's knife or the upkeep of that good quality chef's knife instead.

It's a paring knife man. It will not make you awesome or the envy of your friends unless they're knuckleheads.

Functionally, they are probably similar. But the Premier is stunning! This video shows it better.

Hammered finish, ambidextrous handle.. afaik it's the same steel and grind angle.

Agreed. I bought this as a gift for my mom who has been using a 30 y/o generic stamped ss paring knife she got at the grocery store that still works more than sufficiently...

Sometimes it's just nice to have nice stuff, especially when it's gifted.

That is a nice thought. Though the risk here is that someone (i.e. mom) might be so used to that old paring knife, how it handles and its level of sharpness, they may opt to use the old one no matter how fancy or nice the new one is.
