These are a brilliant exposition concerning the existence of evil in a Theistic world view, and are rightly considered classics. However, Lewis throughout his works has a series of a priori assumptions, some of which are very explicitly dealt with and others of which are subtly (and occasionally not so subtly) assumed to be Gospel. If you are looking to deal with doubts and uncertainties from a rigorous Christian veiwpoint, his writings may be among the best to answer your questions. If you are not, you can still appreciate his writings for his clever expositions of various profound questions, though for me his inability at times to deal with certain assumptions left his writings of limited utility as I've transitioned from Theist to Deist.
Klaatu: I'm impatient with stupidity. My people have learned to live without it.
Mr. Harley: I'm afraid my people haven't. I'm very sorry… I wish it were otherwise. The worst form of insubordination is being right - Keith D., marine veteran. A dictator will starve to the last civilian - self-quoted Who need drugs when you can have fatigue toxins and caffeine. - Keith D., law enforcement |

Thanks for the deal but your review is fraught with subtle suggestions that the man is ultimately wrong especially with terms such as "dealt with". If "dealt with" is to mean that there are counter arguments released, then of course. But we both know this is not profound. I can elicit a counter argument simply by saying "Twilight was a great movie". I would suggest this book to everyone, Christian or not. I read this as an agnostic and greatly appreciated it. Whatever you do, please don't be discouraged from reading it just because you might have picked up that is it ultimately wrong. I would suggest that the reader should independently discern what type of book it is and whether they believe it or not.

A book that rewards both the casual reader as well as patient and exacting analyses. I'm not one given to hyperbole but in my opinion this is the single greatest work of Christian theology of the 20th century. One of the few books that I can point to and say that reading it changed my life.
Yes, my reputation is turned off. Yes, it is deliberate. The reasons are my own.

I'd say that Lewis also often writes without intending his works to be overtly allegorical. He's undoubtedly a pop-theologian but he was often just writing a fun story. The Screwtape letters is IMHO one of his just for fun stories which he never meant to be taken as seriously as it has been. I've often wondered what Lewis would do if he knew that The Screwtape Letters had become something read for many Sunday School classes... |

I was going to award you One Internet right up until the Sunday School bit. You overplayed your hand there and made the troll just too obvious. |
