Not sure what you are looking for, but I thought it was pretty decent. I has fasttrack, not the old style track. The cars are plastic, but the track, transformer and engine would easily piece out to more than this price.

Fairly certain it is the later. I don't think Lionel has manufactured sets in the USA for quite some time.

The set I have is fairly well constructed though. Only problem I have, is the engine wheel noise (constantly needs oiled to keep from squeaking)

How long have you had the one with the 40 watt transformer? Maybe it was old stock? Maybe the Lionel site is wrong? Who knows. This is a nice deal, and I thought about getting it as a gift, but I think I will use that $ for a MTH RailKing RTR set.
