The Kindle Fire 8.9 while bigger is still a Kindle, loaded with Amazon's slow and bloated software rather than full Android.. If I recall right the new Kindles are fairly locked down too. It's also got just a dual core processor.. so that's sort of the gravy.

Just bought one and saved an extra 2% from the f w site... this is actually a better deal than the Staples one that was posted for $235 the other day that got lots of thumbs up. No tax and free shipping makes it cheaper than staples. Couldn't wait for the price to get lower as i'm buying this on behalf of mother-in-law who needs it to gift to our 5yr old son for Christmas.

Nexus 10 is a dual core, and smokes the 7. You can't go by cores. AMD's quad cores lag behind Intel's dual core chips. My CM7 NC gets free Amazon paid apps all the time. I use the Amazon App Store 10x more than the Play Store. The Kindle Fire 8.9's screen trumps the Nexus 7 and 10 with better blacks, contrast, quality, and no light bleed. Granted the Android experience is best on the Nexus devices.

Read some reviews of the Nook Tablet rooted with 4.0. For $99, that's the Android tablet to have for the money. If you don't need a camera, you can't beat that previous deal.

rather get form a store that has B&M locations, but then Id have to pay tax, and seems they all make sure now no coupons will work on tablets...

While you're right that cores don't necessary equal performance, the Tegra 3 is a lot faster than the OMAP in the Kindle Fire by quite a bit.

The point is you can use the Amazon store just as easily on the N7 as you can the Play store.. you can't say that about the Kindle.

I guess the term "deal" needs to be less subjective and more defined. $10 off is only 4% off. I don't think we'd roll into any store or online ad and oooh and ahhh over a 4% off sale.

no tax, no shipping. wasn't planning on buying the 32gb, but when the 16 is 227 on the play store with the tax and shipping, makes sense to pay the extra $13 and get twice the storage space. Not the slickest of deals, but it sure helped me out for christmas, thanks OP!

I agree with both of you to an extent. I personally am not sold on the Kindle, mainly due to Amazon's app store. It's slower to push updates for apps than the Play Store. From what I understand they vet more than the Play Store, sort of like Apple does. Take from that what you will. Secondly, It's running an overlay just like the Nook. I don't necessarily agree that the Kindle or Nook have bloat, but the overlay running on top of Android are somewhat clumsy.

I'm curious how well B&N keeps up with Amazon, sort of offering the same services/device. The Nook, as mentioned also lacks an all important front facing camera. Not sure why the newer ones have not integrated one.

Most SlickDealers have a hard enough time posting a deal correctly, much less rooting a device and installing a custom ROM. Sure, I've rooted every Android device I have owned, but it's not something my wife, my parents, or many of my friends will do.

I think each tablet has it's niche. Just depends on what you want. I think the Nexus is nice blend of each.

I think this is an ok deal. If you need one as a gift by Xmas this might be the last chance to get it below MSRP. I think the price will drop at many retailers after Xmas.

You can use a $30 off $150 coupon for OfficeMax on the Nexus - I just did it a few days ago online and already received. Got my coupon from eBay (around $5 Buy It Now) and went through with no issues. Free shipping but of course you pay tax; brings it to around $235 - $240 after adding the cost of a purchased coupon + tax, so pretty such same price as this deal.
