I think I can help with this whole pan, pam delimma. Applebees is great if you live in a small town with little to no options, If you live in or near a big city then Applebees is horrible and should be avoided. Like everything in life it is relative to what is readily available to you. Applebees is good(relatively) as long as they don't have any competition in the area, the one good thing I can say about applebees is that if i'm ever in the mood for bad service and food I know right where to go!
Totally agree, we used to live in Central NY and Applebees was one of the few options we had for dining out. Now that we live in the Hudson Valley and there are so many options, we haven't been to Applebees more than twice in the past 7 years (and it's right down the street from us). When it comes to dining out, I prefer to support small local establishments, where we generally get a better experience (better quality food and better service).
For many, yes.
Not sure where all the hate comes from. I don't eat there that often and when I do it is only for happy hour to get half priced appetizers. There menu has changed a lot and there is always 2-3 things that everyone can enjoy.
Thanks OP, picked up one just because I know I will eventually use it and I don't mind saving the $10.
Last two episodes at Applebee's in two completely different areas several hundreds of miles apart:
Went to restaurant with friend, ordered 2 meals a coffee, a sweet tea, and an appetizer. Tea came, but coffee did not. When asked, I was told they were making a fresh pot "just for me". Coffee finally arrived, but no creamer. I asked for 1/2 & 1/2, and was given milk. I told them I did not want milk, I wanted 1/2 & 1/2 (they taste different in coffee). I was told, "We are out." I told them to go to the blessed Kroger, for crying out loud. the manager told me he could not allow an employee to go get it because of insurance issues and he could not leave the store while on duty all night, but he assured me HE would personally make sure the rest of our meal was fantastic. During this time, ONE meal arrived, the second meal never arrived. I waited, and waited. I finally lost it, and got up to walk out as my friend's meal was cold, and mine still had not shown up. The manager suddenly became all interested in my meal and went into the back to fix it, and I told him not to bother and left. About 1/2 hour later, I saw the same manager walk into the local Subway to get his dinner.
I contacted the regional office and told them of my lovely episode. They sent me a gift card to cover and return. I went back to a completely different Applebee's, and the episode was quite similar. The fish was still frozen in the middle, but the outside was done. Yuk! Two bad episodes in a row let me know I do not want to ever return.
Getting paid $30 to buy my kids each a set of luggage for $0.
A BOGOF on a refrigerator
It's amazing that whenever this deal pops up, it's almost a guarantee that about half the posts will be from people who feel the need to bash or make jokes regarding Applebees and/or its food. Not sure I understand why all the hate... as restaurants go are they REALLY that much different from any other place in the same price range?
Their food is crap, imo. It used to be decent, until about 5 years ago...
When I was in my low 20's Applebees, Steak and Ale, and Olive Garden were my staples for "fine dining". Then again, there were very few other options. Even the closest Friday's was 30 mins farther away than the Applebees.... man there was just not much decent around there.
If I had one anywhere near me (which I don't any longer) I would possibly consider it for the occasional lunch or to meet a friend for a beer or 4 and appetizers after work. I will never, ever, ever (that one's for you, Taylor!) eat a dinner at Applebees again.
So considering that, this isn't a bad deal. But why do I have the sneaky suspicion that gift cards cannot be used for alcohol.... and if that is the case then no thanks.
Edit - yep, was right. "Alcohol not included where prohibited by law."
