The Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal concerns the copy protection measures included by Sony BMG on Compact Discs in 2005. Sony BMG included the Extended Copy Protection (XCP) and MediaMax CD-3 software on music CDs. XCP was put on 52 titles[1] and MediaMax was put on 50 titles.[2] This software was automatically installed on Windows desktop computers when customers tried to play the CDs. The software interferes with the normal way in which the Microsoft Windows operating system plays CDs by installing a rootkit which unintentionally created vulnerabilities for other malware to exploit. This was discovered and publicly revealed by Mark Russinovich on the Sysinternals blog. Other operating systems were not affected.
As a result, a number of parties have filed lawsuits against Sony BMG; the company ended up recalling all the affected CDs; and greater public attention was drawn to the issue of commercially backed spyware and rootkits. Additionally, further investigation revealed that Sony had created its copyright protection software, in part, using LAME code, violating the GNU Lesser General Public License,[3] and VLC code written by Jon Lech Johansen and Sam Hocevar, violating the GNU General Public License.[3]
LOL, and remember they apologized and released a rootkit remover? And it turned out the removal software instead buried their rootkit deeper? "I promise sweetheart, I won't hit you again." Never trust Sony. This isn't a little oops, this is their corporate culture and it continues.

I hate dimwits like you. With that in mind, Sony's security is something to be laughed at. There are no viruses or rootkit come this way (so far), but if you would like a higher-quality stream, pick MOG or Spotify. Streams here peak at about 16kHz, Spotify's/MOG don't. (audiophile speak)
Also, I laugh at your "support the artist" crap OP. I'm an indie artist with music published through an aggregator (I get 100% of the royalties for a flat fee). I get paid about $0.0002USD per Spotify stream. Major label artists get paid even less due to mechanical royalties. So, unless you're listening to that artist's songs about 50 times or so, they will literally not receive a penny. Buy music instead through Amazon or iTunes if you really want to support your artists.
Oh, yeah, that Wiki crap. Uhhhh.... it's a decent streaming service for $10. It's legal and you won't have record labels going after you if you use it. Enjoy if you buy it. Also, you can stack this with the V.me deal on LivingSocial. Enjoy

Quick Review of the Sony Music Unlimited service.
Has an android app that is pretty good however you cannot be on this service in more than one location at a time. At most I seem to be able to use it on my PS3 and my HP touchpad occasionally at the same time but most of the time it will log you out of the last device. Def worth $10 for 6 months if you listen to albums or want a pretty good top 100 list. Even better for $12 a year. I switch between this and iHeartRadio but I still miss my SiriusXM...that one deal for a free year fell through after 2 weeks or so. |

That's a shame about it being limited to one device at a time. I wanted two kids to be able to use it at the same time on their devices.
How does the LivingSocial gifting work? Can I buy one for myself and then give another one as a gift to someone in my household? |

I just tried to use this on a different playstation network email account than the email account i used with living social. it did not work. make sure you use the same email address throughout this entire deal (livingsocial and playstation network)
overall, not bad. i'll be sticking to spotify, but i got a subscription for my girlfriend. she'll enjoy it in addition to her pandora |
