As you point out, pistol and revolver marksmanship requires real skill.

Basketball is more difficult than marksmanship. It involves the similar element of putting a projectile on target, but it adds the complexity of defending against an opposing team.

The virtue is the combination of a difficult task and the refinement of skills through discipline and training over time.

Blowing stuff up is the province of lunatics because only lunatics and sociopaths enjoy destruction for its own sake. We need give no further encouragement to such gun-nuts, let alone supply them with a tidal-wave of instruments with which to destroy innocent children.

So taking your argument that the amendment should be read:

The right to have a well regulated militia ///////// The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The commas were inserted to show that the right to bear arms flowed from the earlier right to maintain a well-regulated militia. It was not independent in its own right. IIRC, not even the right-wingers on the Supreme Court take your position that the two clauses are entirely unrelated.

Can you explain where this idea comes from? The idea that your more likely to get killed with your own gun or something?

Is that via accident? Someone breaking in and using it on you? Or is it a loved one being not so loving?
