Actually I have an Energy system (mix of Veritas and RC-Micro) and am seriously considering this. Just because your speakers are small doesn't mean they aren't good and you don't want a good engine behind them. I consider the receiver just as important as the TV because it will do all your upscaling, this thing will use the latest Audyssey to configure your speakers, and more....
so besides the wireless networking, higher wattage, and a better calibration system, why get this over the 717? I'm torn on getting a new receiver but I'm pretty sure the 717 meets my needs... unless the 818 has some features that aren't jumping out at me.
Hmmmm, seems the wifi is actually an addon. I dunno, I took the initial room calibration on my 617 and then just tweaked for a few days till I had a really good mix, so not sure that's worth an extra ~$170 to me. I think i'll just sleep on this for a bit, the 818 bottomed out at $650 and the 717 hit $500, so I might just snag whichever one gets back to those lows first. Both look really good
When I bought the 717, there was a $500-600 price difference. With the lower price it is within $200 and well worth the price difference.
I did the same thing. I'm really glad I did. The 818 is terrific. When Amazon had that $653 price is lasted about an hour. I didn't expect to see it in this neighborhood again. People should jump on this deal!
