Right...Hostable is pure crap. I have tried them in the past just Google them they have plenty of horrible reviews:

Hosterbox actually sells this package for $50 and you get the server reliability and support that comes with that. Its not always just about the cheapest, its about value, the best quality to price ratio.

You can also buy condoms at dollarama, but I would heavily recommend you don't buy condoms from there unless you can live with the consequences. Same principle.

It was just an example, you can do the same with any lame panel-based hosting. Hosterbox even has a free option. The problem is that for the same price as this you can get a domain from register, hostable, the free hosterbox option, and a VPS for a year that spanks all of the above. See lowendbox.com

A Vps for $14 a YEAR? I don't think its going to be good at all. There are things you can go ultra-cheap on. If you want to buy a pen for example I don't think a dollarama pen will be that much worse than a $4 pen at staples or a $700 montblanc. But with web hosting, I don't know about you but I rely on my web hosting company to keep my data safe and to keep a perfect up time.

I can understand going with Hostable or going with a free host if you just want to fool around and try stuff but at the end of the day if you want support, uptime and reliability you are going to have to pay for it.

I understand where you are coming from, and maybe a few years ago I would of agreed with you but running a decently successful blog I can't afford to have down time or any data loss and I would rather pay and guarantee great service than trying out a bunch of free or ultra-cheap services to find one that won't fail on me.

I guess it comes down to preference and I am not trying to convince you, if you don't have a need for the reliability or support then that is great for you, save a few dollars and cut corners.
