Could use some help/advice here.....

I picked up one of these as a last minute 'bonus' Christmas gift for my son-to-be-college-bound teen. Something portable to help with school....Not expecting the world but she does have some everyday uses and if this will suffice then great...

Her uses - Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, You tube & schoolwork

I loved the price, but if it wont work I can take it back and save for a full-size laptop....She has an older Asus EE Atom single core mini-pc and now pretty unhappy with it...She does have an Android Phone for apps and my Quad Core desktop for major needs.....Should I keep this or is it better to save up for a full size laptop - asking for help from all the college SDers...

I have the ability to add Ram & SSD but for that price..Ram no issue but if I gotta buy $100 HD - then might as well invest in a better unit????
For her uses, if you added the ram and got rid of the anti-virus (Norton), plus rid it of the Acer bloatware, I bet it would run fine.

As far as the Asus EE Atom, why not copy all her saved files on a stick drive, then do the same thing as above?

I'm looking for that exact same decal! As long as it is not pink I don't care what the color is or what people think. Ferrari look would look slick as hell though! I think you started something lol
Just upgraded it to 8gb. Took me 2 minutes tops and checks the specs. It says running on 7.2gb. I did notice a great improvement in speed and reaction time. I still notice some lag on video though. Anyone has instruction how to optimize video card on this, pls. post. Next upgrade is SSD. pls. let me know where to get for cheap. I don't want to spend more than $400 tops after all upgrades. Thanks

Amazon has nice ferrari logos for under 5 bucks. I will put this horse right on the top corner where it says ACER, then I would put 2 black horizontal stickers (one 1 inch and a 2 inch) across to cover the word ASPIRE ONE. Kinda like a racing stripes. You can get this at pep boys or any car stores. Off course I would do the memory and ssd upgrade first. It would be silly for a Ferrari to be going slow;-)

Not quite sure what all the fuss is about, I ordered one picked it up at my store the next morning. Went to best buy and bought a 4gb ram stick for 25 bux, slapped it in.

this thing is awesome! whoever says this netbook is a POS, must seriously fail at using computers.
mine plays 1080p fluidly, smooth, and without issues. (streaming, native, and HDMI Out)
its pretty snappy for a netbook too.

+1 for this

i tried everything i could think of, but it was too weak.. so i returned the thing. you can right click on the flash video and make sure hardware acceleration is turned on, but that's probably not enough to make a difference.

You need to set your expectations appropriately. This is a device designed for ultimate mobility and battery life. It handles email, word processing and HD video well (even HDMI out). If you want to game (say COD or the like) or convert videos, you want something else.

i returned the thing and got the ao756. battery life shouldn't be as good, but it will handle probably any video that i throw at it. all that for $203 (used on ebay) is worth it to me.

This is a great little laptop/notebook for the price. It is very small, light and easy to carry which makes it extremely portable.

True, it does not have the most powerful cpu but as long as your needs are not overly cpu intensive it gets the job done just fine.

On a side note, I happened to be in my local Fry's electronics store today and as I walked down the laptop aisle I noticed an Acer with the exact identical chassis/form factor but it had an i7-3517U processor in it and 8gb of memory. It is model Acer Aspire V5-171-9661, google it in case you want to find out more about it. They even have it at Amazon.

So I'm thinking WOW that must be one smoking fast little machine. nod

But then again, it costs around $500 more... EEK!

i was considering the v5 wit hthe 3317u i5 for $499.. it comes with 6GB ram.

but then i got my ao756, and at 2/5th the price.. i'd say that's much more worth my money.

No, I drive an Acura TL type S and Lexus SC-430 with 300+ horses as weekend car. What is your problem? I'm just giving tips here for my fellow slickdeal-er, why you got to be like that, Dick

Got my Hauppauge wintv HVR 950Q tv tuner setup and running on here.
Streams HD channels like a champ! storm chasing will be fun come spring/summer

your streaming may vary, but my antenna is set up next to a window (works even better outside and in the car).

CPU = Faint

GPU = AMD's previous Gen........ dual-core..... ULV LMAO

That is just absolutely sad. Intel just absolutely sucks at IGP.

Give me i3 ULV CPU performance, a ridiculously fast IGP, 8+hrs battery, and a <$400 price. All in a netbook form factor.
