I'm sure someone has said this but I purchased this laptop and it came with a 1.0cpu instead of a 1.3. It was choppy at full screen video playback through the hdmi. Returning tomorrow.
the processor dynamically changes from 1.0 to 1.3ghz (hence the turbo part)

there are several factors that can attribute to the choppy video that may have nothing to do with the hardware of the laptop.

Check AMD catalyst, make sure you have video settings set to be applied to streaming video

Update flash player
Add more RAM
Try a different web browser, or if using google chrome disable the built-in flash player plugin that chrome comes with and let the browser use the adobe one you downloaded.

for me personally I did several extra tweaks such as the ones listed above, and have no lag issues. then I ditched windows 8 completely and installed my copy of windows 7. I want to make it clear after doing tweaks I had no lag in windows 8, but the OS is not that stable (in my opinion)

if you still need help getting things ironed out, keep posting.

So I'm trying figure out how to get to the memory on this thing. I see one screw underneath, but removing it does not allow me to remove the plate. Can anyone help me out?

I was rejecting Windows 8 on principle too. But I got a great laptop with Windows 8 and I didn't sign up with a MS account, I uninstalled all Metro programs, and installed Classic Shell (free, open source) to add the start menu back and skip right to desktop... you barely realize you're on 8 but you get great speed.

This was in an Amazon review for a similar model:

"To upgrade the Memory Module, simply turn the netbook upside down so your looking at the bottom of it (with the battery port facing away from you). Remove the battery first by sliding the locking switch fully to the right and pull the battery free. Now you will see that the bottom has a large square area in the middle which is held in place by a single screw at the bottom edge. Remove that screw, then place your palm on the center pannel and apply a bit of preasure while pulling downward towards you. It should slide down and release. You will now see the installed 1GB/2GB Memory Module (depending on what yours has). There are 2 silver clips holding it in place (1 clip on each side). Gently move each of the clips outward away from the Memory Module and they will release it allowing it to pop-up to a 45 degree position. Simply pull the memory module out and then insert your new memory module, then push down so that it clips back into place. Replace the panel and put the screw back in place. Install the battery and turn on your netbook."

Pop the battery out by sliding that little oval shape locking deal to the right, then push up on the whole bottom plastic piece

I use a little screw driver in the hole

i bought 2 machines for my kids. one of them was flawless. no stuttering issues. the 2nd one was very slow and crashed to the new 'blue screen' several times during normal use. prob crashed 15 times in 2 days. so i returned it, they didn't have a replacement so i got a refund. going to get a new one today via site to store and hopefully it will be as good as the first one.

my windows 8 did that on this netbook a few times...other than that no stutter issues.

I bought a 500gb 7200 rpm hard drive and put windows 7 on it. swapped it out for the factory 320gb windows 8 hard drive. Haven't had a blue screen or any problems.

So I think it was a hard drive issue or piss poor windows 8 coding. because I factory reset twice while using windows 8 and it happened within each reset once.

yeah i would have done that if i couldn't return it. i just felt like i didn't want to 'fix' it b/c i had just bought it. i think it's just a bad hdd. i may swap in some of the few ssd i have laying around and see how it goes.

I noticed the CPU speed thing too. It seems it runs at 1.0GHz max when on battery, and 1.3GHz max when plugged it. I suspect this can be changed in the power setting, if you want to run 1.3GHz when on battery. This would probably reduce battery run time.

My video choppiness using IE10 went away when video settings were applied to internet video; just a simple "check the box" as described above. Thanks htcmda!

For those having a problem with streaming HD video on Youtube when using Chrome, I was able to fix that. Chrome uses its own internal version of Flash and for some reason it causes stuttering. To fix it, install a new copy of Flash and then go to chrome://plugins and disable the version of Flash that is listed in the Google directory. Chrome will then use the external Flash and your Youtube stuttering problems will be gone.
+Rep. This worked for me which is great cause I hated having to switch back to IE whenever i wanted to watch a video.

you're welcome!

i get 3-5 hours of battery depending on performance setting. so yes you can run up to 1.3ghz on battery. glad your choppy video went away.

I have a question for you all....

Suppose the hard drive in your netbook crashed, failed or any of the sort and is no longer bootable.
all partitions are worthless.

you purchase a new hard drive, but now you don't have any OS to install. how would you go about putting windows 8 back on the computer/new hard drive. to make it factory condition? I don't see where to get recovery media from acer. and the stuff I do see I'm not quite sure is exactly how this netbook came.

If you have another PC available to you, see this post. FYI, a reviewer at walmart.com said Acer charged them $21 for a "recovery package" that didn't even work.
