Sony 50" KDL-50EX645 LED HDTV $625 + tax (Reg $900) after GC and AMEX and EPP

Can you please comment on black levels/contrast/brightness uniformity and viewing angles? I've a 4 year panny 720p plasma that still works perfectly well but i gave it to my gf. I'm afraid that LEDs have not caught up 4 year old plasma technology. I just stream movies from PC, watch maybe 2-4 hours tv/week and stream netflix.

Just don't want the image looking all washed up with uneven brightness and poor viewing angle.

I can't find any faults with the picture quality. The viewing angles are good. The colors are vivid even on the standard setting. The sound is good for such a screen. It is not the quality of a sorund sound system of course. The glass seems to be a bit reflective. I have a ceiling light not pointed directly to the tv, but I could notice some glare, from one angle. I come from plasma only (5 and 4 yrs old) and I was reluctant to go LED, but I am very happy with it. Would I buy it again? Yes. Would I pay $750 for it? No. The Panasonic 60" plasma at $800 was a better deal. However, after all the discounts, points, epp and other junk, for me the cost was under $500 ... can't beat that.

Few annoying things:

• the internet browser is rather useless because of the navigation difficulty.
• if you mount the tv on the wall, especially over a fireplace, the power cord is rather short and you need an extension cord. A longer PC power cable for example will not work because of the socket Sony put on the panel.
• if you use the stock remote rather than a Harmony for example, the close proximity of the two navigation rings tends to get in the way.
• Not sure why Sony has a digit skip on the back HDMI. Instead of 1,2,3 and 4 on the side, or the other way around, it goes back 1, side 2, back 3,4.
• If you have the light sensor turned on, during a movie if there is no movement in the room it will power off the tv. Happened to my little one, twice while watching a movie.

One more thing, I hope people do not think Motionflow XR240, as labeled on the box and on Sony's site, means this panel is 240hz. It is a 120Hz panel. Hope this helps.

One other question: Can you hook up a wireless keyboard to the unit via the USB port to make navigation easier?

Just want to tell my case to clear some of the questions above:

1. AMEX $25 didn't work on gift card, worked on purchase of TV by phone to get the free gift.
2. Purchased $400 gift card(one time, not separated 4X$100 ), got 4 $20 back.

I went to local store to check the displays. I like the Sony better.
The TC-L47E50 display in my local store had defect. Horizontal lines on the screen. Sales told me it's just that display unit has problem.

Great question ... you might want to ask Sony .... otherwise you will need to find a compatible wireless USB keyboard. That would be cool.

For those who bought the e gift card, did you choose email or hand delivery method?

I had to call on the eGift card, since I Was a first time buyer they needed to verify my CC/account.

Those of you who ordered the 46" TV and got the shipping information, was it shipped by Fedex Home or CEVA. I placed my order through a rep. and he mentioned it will be shipped via CEVA which is different from the shipping methods listed when you place the order online.

Edit: The rep. also didn't give me the free holiday gift. He kept saying that it has expired because they ran out of stock.

though it is not 46 inch tv, If it helps here is my order status .

got 50 inch and it was shipped via Ceva - as per tracking it shows expected delivery on 28th , Btw, free holiday gift - sony headphones arrived via overnight delivery thru fedex.
