iPad Mini

No OT please...

Who here has the iPad mini... and how do you like it comparing to other iPads or tablet... Currently I have the iPad 3rd gen and thinking about a mini to kinda replace my laptop for everyday usage... but i kinda on the edge if I shall hold off until the next one come out or just jump the ship and get it for xmas... Your experience and opinion is appreciated!

I would hold off for a model with the retina display, personally.

I would think your iPad 3 would be better for a laptop replacement than an iPad Mini, just due to screen size.

Why can't your IPad replace your laptop?

That's what I'm kinda holding off for... but with the smaller screen size... it has a higher PPI than the iPad 2...

I should've been clearer... i have the iPad 3 which belongs to my dad... so i got to use it and was kind of comparing between if it's a big step down if I was to get the mini.

i think the regular 9.7 iPad is kinda too big & heavy... the iPad mini is light and i can carry it around and use it when i'm in bed or on the sofa instead of lugging my laptop or uncomfortable holding the regular size ipad.

Wait until the retina display model if you must get an iPad mini. The Nexus 7 has a better resolution display than the crap one Apple decided to put into the 1st gen iPad mini.

Got my wife the Ipad mini for christmas and she loves how light it is. With such a small screen size I dont see the retina display making as big of a difference compared to the larger full sized Ipad.

EDIT: We are terrible at waiting til christmas to open our gifts from one another...

My boyfriend and I exchanged Christmas presents on Thanksgiving. We never wait until Christmas.

That's with us too. My parents got their presents and is using them lol. But I'm still deciding what to get us. I think I have to give it a try again at the apple store to see if the display is much different but i probably wait for the next mini to come out.

But when I think about it. The processor and ram should be the issue since will it be future proof to handle the upcoming iOS updates?

Eventually you won't be able to install a version of iOS on it. It will, at some point, just be obsolete and Apple won't allow it to be compatible with newer iOS versions. At that point, though, you're probably looking at buying a new one anyway..

You'll start to notice how crappy the display is when you begin to actually use it day to day. A store display won't really tell you much. You'll be disappointed later on.

The iPad 3 has literally twice the resolution of the mini and it is going to stick out like a sore thumb, because it sucks having to "downgrade" to a resolution like that.



And you're right about RAM. 512MB? Cheap Apple. Super cheap. It's already looking dead in the water. My HTC Sensation launched in like May of LAST YEAR has 768MB of RAM.

Just hold out. Because you'll be kicking yourself when Apple decides to launch the retina one in like March or May.
