Canon MX892 (and other) Printer PGI-225 and CLI-226 Ink, 5/set for $2.25 @Amazon

thanks for the detailed answer. your amazon link is the one i am confused on 225 vs 226 black inks. they said 2 black inks but i do not know if it's 1 x 225 + 1 x 226 or 2 x 225 or 2 x 226.

the printer won't let you print anymore if any of the tanks are empty. you could wait a little and somtimes the printer will see ink again once more of it flows down but carts so cheap I change them right away.

the pgi-225 large black is used mostly when you print documents and do copies.

the cli-226 black is used more when you print photos.

I use a mg5320 and over 1 year of printing b&w, color, photos I have about 20 extra cli-226 small black carts laying around from the 5 sets I buy. I just recycle them at staples if I don't have enough empty carts.

I've tried various sellers on ebay never had issues with clogging or leaks, only thing I did have a problem with is some carts that weren't detected by the printer a piece of the plastic tab had broken off and when I put the cart in, it didnt seem to contact the chip reader I guess. I stopped buying from those sellers and switched to the ones I use now.

cost more than the ones op listed but I trust them since it's good quality. amazon [amazon.com]. I buy the 6 set from them cus I also got a 6220 recently. used to buy from their ebay [ebay.com] listing until they started selling on amazon which is cheaper for 6 set compared to 5 set.

the pics of the carts op posted look exactly like the ones I used to get from ebay from other sellers. they work too but after getting 2 carts that weren't detected by printer I switched to abacus.

What's the likelyhood of Canon MP530 accepting these cartridges? they look about the same size and the fact that they're so cheap I am thinking about giving it a shot.

or feel free to point me to a similar deal for MP 530 if this is not gonna work.

No, that is simply not correct. You can continue to print even when the carts are bone-dry. Just last week I completely ran through Cyan, and a color print still came out as if in color, but without any blue in the mix.

I buy from abacus on amazon [amazon.com] you can get 4 sets for about 20 dollars. recycle the extra gray carts if you don't need them. I never actually looked at the box they come in what brand they are. will check tomorrow to see if it's G&G most of the time they arrive with just the plastic wrap.

Which printer are you using? my 5320 just stops when it shows out of ink.

I don't know if it's true or not but isn't it bad for the print head to print without ink? I used to have an hp that didn't seem to mind but rather not take any chances, no more warranty for mine.

I took out the 226 black and it wouldn't print grayscale. I did the same with another 226 color and same thing. I don't think you can print black/white.



I believe the printer uses some color even if printout is b/w, but you can limit the colors by printing grayscale.



Too bad I have exhausted all the reps for today. Even if it was the same size they use different chips.

The good thing is that CLI-8 have been around much longer, so if you pick a reputable vendor you should not have any issues.

I took one out and it wouldn't print. I didn't try keeping an empty one to see if it would print.

yea you have to have at least some ink in all tanks for printing.

the printer does use some of all the colors even if you only print b&w, company claims its necessary to protect printhead from damage but I think it's just their way of sucking more ink faster so you pay them sooner.

I had at least 6 HP printers fail (specifically, the printheads) in attempts to introduce continuous ink setups and generic ink. Replacement printheads often outweigh the cost of the printer itself.

If they don't come boxed in G&G packaging (individual boxes, labeled), it's not G&G

no guinea pigs here. I buy from them on ebay until I found their amazon listing which is cheaper. I think the seller took off some of the boxes to fit it all in the packaging to save on shipping but yes they normally come individually boxed and labled. the ones that weren't are still the exact same design and look, not some crappy replacement. Earliest I can check is tomorrow around noon to see if the boxes are G&G. I think they are. Printer is at store so I can't confirm until tomorrow.

That's because ALL cartridges must be present and installed for the printer to function. An empty cartridge will allow it to print. You'll just get a notification stating low ink, and may have to press "OK" to continue with printjobs.

Whether lack of ink potentially damages your printheads--I cannot answer. But I will say that I have continued using the same printerheads without fail after many ink replacements. And I always wait until the carts are bled dry.
