Deal Details

You were happy bringing this baby home on Black Friday but now realized he is constantly hungry. Sweat no more!

Previously I used to pay about $4+FS+no tax for a set of 5 inks, but more recently paid $2.25+California tax+FS (select More Buying Choices). I think this is the lowest price anywhere:
- 5/set [amazon.com] (one of each color) at $2.25
- 6/set [amazon.com] (one of each color; 6th is *gray* ink) at $2.75
- 10/set [amazon.com] (two of each color) at $4.45
- 12/set [amazon.com] (four of the large black + two of each color) at $5.45

Of the printers using CLI-226, only three require gray: MG5120, MG5220, MG5320, *MG6120*, *MG6220*, *MG8120*, MG8220, MX882, MX892, iP4820, ix6520.

For comparison see attached CARTRIDGEWAREHOUSE (left) vs Vision Supplies. The latter calls them "Hi-Yield"; as you can tell from the picks CLI-226 has about 40% more ink while PGI-225 (not pictured) has about 15% less ink. Overall you are paying less while getting more ink, and they also shipped faster.

If you have any vendor recommendations please let us know. My printer is hungry.

so which black tank will the printer use out first? the 226 or the 225? i had to think hard on the 12 combo set when i tried to order. they ship out the big 225 ones without the small 226 ones. i wonder if the printer will print with the empty 226 black left inside.

edited: i was talking about other 12 set on amazon. they ship the 225 blacks but no 226 blacks.
Black has gone out first for me. I print mostly black--documents, shipping labels and the like. I do print in color (I don't avoid it--too much work to check those settings). On one printer, I'm on the 3rd 225 black cart, and I've yet to finish up 2 of the 226 cartridges.

can you still print using 225 black without the 226 black or if it's empty?

In other words, you have personally tested these inks and found them to be good? No leaking, no clogging after a few sheets, etc etc? Those are common concerns for SOME of the various 225/226 combos available on amazon. So far, the only inks I've trusted are Blake and G&G

Sounds like you've done your home work. Where did you buy the Blake and G&G branded cartridges?

That I'm not certain of. I'm sure I ran into the situation before with the 6220--as I tend to bleed the carts dry before replacing--but I don't recall.

In any case, I bought a ton of the 12-set (with the extra 2x 225's).

I used to buy the G&G through meritline with their buy1get1 codes that would pop up. However, around June they started swapping in non-G&G carts (and listing G&G exclusively--which doesn't go on sale). Unfortunately, there have been some really BAD reviews cropping up with those replacement carts on Meritline, and I would not recommend anyone buy them. Get G&G, or nothing.

Blake is new to me, but I installed 4 sets on 4 printers, and they are wonderful.

What's the likelyhood of Canon MP530 accepting these cartridges? they look about the same size and the fact that they're so cheap I am thinking about giving it a shot.

or feel free to point me to a similar deal for MP 530 if this is not gonna work.

Wow. Recently got the MG6220. My first ink order. It seems astonishingly inexpensive. I hope they work!

If your printer doesn't accept pgi-225 and cli-226 inks, then it's not going to work. It's as simple as that. You can't jam the circle-peg into the square hole

I checked btw, your printer uses cli/pgi 5/8 carts. Absolutely not compatible. Fortunately though, you can still buy generic carts on the cheap. I would recommend picking up a 6220 or 892 the next time they go on sale.

the printer won't let you print anymore if any of the tanks are empty. you could wait a little and somtimes the printer will see ink again once more of it flows down but carts so cheap I change them right away.

the pgi-225 large black is used mostly when you print documents and do copies.

the cli-226 black is used more when you print photos.

I use a mg5320 and over 1 year of printing b&w, color, photos I have about 20 extra cli-226 small black carts laying around from the 5 sets I buy. I just recycle them at staples if I don't have enough empty carts.

depending on your usage even though 225 black is bigger it may go faster, even if you print photos it's kinda rare to have a mostly black colored print. red goes fastest then yellow then blue then large black then small black.

I've tried various sellers on ebay never had issues with clogging or leaks, only thing I did have a problem with is some carts that weren't detected by the printer a piece of the plastic tab had broken off and when I put the cart in, it didnt seem to contact the chip reader I guess. I stopped buying from those sellers and switched to the ones I use now.

cost more than the ones op listed but I trust them since it's good quality. amazon [amazon.com]. I buy the 6 set from them cus I also got a 6220 recently. used to buy from their ebay [ebay.com] listing until they started selling on amazon which is cheaper for 6 set compared to 5 set.

the pics of the carts op posted look exactly like the ones I used to get from ebay from other sellers. they work too but after getting 2 carts that weren't detected by printer I switched to abacus.

I buy from abacus on amazon [amazon.com] you can get 4 sets for about 20 dollars. recycle the extra gray carts if you don't need them. I never actually looked at the box they come in what brand they are. will check tomorrow to see if it's G&G most of the time they arrive with just the plastic wrap.

thanks for the detailed answer. your amazon link is the one i am confused on 225 vs 226 black inks. they said 2 black inks but i do not know if it's 1 x 225 + 1 x 226 or 2 x 225 or 2 x 226.
