It is for me? At the rebate page is for model # ST3000DM001. At the TD page ST3000DM001 is listed as the model number. Only thing I'd worry about is rebate isn't listed on the TD page so if the rebate company screws you over you really wouldn't have a recourse to contact TD to get them to credit you the difference.

I dropped a 2TB external off of the kitchen table and onto a hardwood floor and it obviously stopped working. I tired to determine if it was the drive or the enclosure by breaking it open and putting it in my tower. It was the actual drive so I went to Seagate's site to start the RMA process. I typed in the serial number right off the drive and printed the RMA label. They sent me a new drive and I just stuck it into my tower. No loss.

Sweet news, thanks bud. I wonder if WD works the same way? Will keep in mind for any seagates that drop that low in any case.

totally agree. ive been burned too many times with mail in rebates. I dont understand why the whole industry hasnt moved to instant rebates instead.

Because it costs them money? If everyone got instant rebates, then they might as well drop the price which is exactly why they give rebates instead.

The way rebates work is that manufacturers get 100 people to buy because of the rebate but say only 60 apply for the rebate or apply correctly. This is when the manufacturers clear their own rebates which also costs them administratively. So enter the clearing houses which come and tell the manufacturers, you are going to pay off 60 people and there is a risk you may have to pay more, give us that rebate amount for 60 people and we will handle the rebate processing which will save you money.

The clearing houses figure they can get away by paying only 40 people with their tactics and so can pocket the rebates for the 20 themselves. The more they deny more they stand to make. And this is not including the money they get for selling your data to anyone who will pay for it.

The manufacturer wins by getting 100 customers at a predictable cost, the clearing houses win by pocketing unclaimed and denied claims and many of the customers get shafted.

Obama should ban Mail-In Rebates.

What I meant was, 3tb drives have gone as far down as $90 (no MIR) in the past few months, so this particular price is unappealing both before and even after rebate.

I have two more slots to fill in an external enclosure that I just bought, and neither 3tb drive cost me more than $90. (One of them, part of a newegg combo deal, amounted to just $70.)

Where have the real deals on 3tb drives gone? It's dried up in the last couple of weeks.

I should've bought more 3TB drives when they were $90 pre-BF.............. damn it.
