They're OK in town for me but even a few miles outside and the signal goes to shit. Data service while on Interstate travel in and around Minnesota is really lacking with TMobile as well.
I can attest to the lack of T-Mobile service on interstate travel. I recently drove NYC to Chicago and there were spots where there was no service at all, and mostly E (Edge) the rest of the time. But you can't beat speeds like the following for $30/month on the 5GB/100 minute plan when connected to HSPA+.

crazy latency though

Don't need the $50 prepaid card but the phone looks pretty sweet. Does anyone know the prepaid card is tied to your account/phone when you buy or if it can be flipped on eBay/Craigslist?

I use 40$/month SimpleMobile, MVNO of Tmo. I agree that interstate coverage is spotty. But, hey there are plenty of WiFi hotspots on the way (like Starbucks, McD's) where you can call if there is a very important call. The real dire need what I think is if you are in some emergency (like accident, flat tire) where you need some help. Otherwise, 40$/50$ per month is solid deal. Most of the Big3 charge atleast 80$ per line for such unlimited talk/text/data. Its easy 12x30=360$ savings per year when you go pre-paid route. I would really want a *REALLY* good pre-paid provider who can compete with VZW and ATT afa coverage goes. Don't mind paying 5$ extra for good coverage.

is this phone pentaband
\

Quad-band.

GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz HSDPA : 900/2100 MHz

I think it is missing 2100 (Band 1), which they use in Japan and Korea.
