Its solid and kick-ass for the power it holds. Clear and loud. Setup will take a few days. Things to note are:The Zone 2 needs an amp or you will need to use the additional 2 rear surrounds to setup the second zone. That would leave your main setup as 5.1 or 5.2

i have the VSX-1022k and love it.
FWIW, a major selling point for me was the pioneer app for android which works but requires waiting time to open the app and connect to the receiver. I didn't think it would be a big deal but I found myself avoiding it (maybe i'm just impatient). Anyways, i just thought I would point out that this (and many other AVRs) can be controlled over IP with eventghost and it is way more responsive than the iphone/android apps. If you couple that with pandora one app on your HTPC (also controlled via eventghost) and use the customizable mobile app for EG instead, you now have an instantaneous controller (with custom widgets) that is much more versatile. I'm not bad-mouthing pioneer or this receiver at all, just wanted to point this out to others that might be on the fence between this and another "dumb" AVR. If the control features are what you're after, consider that you may be able to use a DIY method to get the same functionality. That said, I don't regret my purchase at all. Awesome unit! |

This receiver is simply awesome....Wake up in the morning and want to turn some music on? Just open up your iphone or ipad and hit play! The receiver automatically turns on and starts playing your music. No need to turn on the receiver first. This may sound like a dumb little feature, but has turned out to be priceless.
Also pioneer has the icontrolAV2012 app in the apple App Store which you can use to equalize and fully control your receiver. I'm a software developer and I can tell Pioneer's Engineers have put some serious work into the APP....also someone mentioned their app takes a little while to connect to their receiver...mine connects instantly? Maybe try a firmware update? |
