Wow, it was just TODAY that I was looking at BH and Amazon for camcorders. I've always been a camera guy but decided I'd like to start shooting family and friends home videos, starting this Xmas. I decided to hold off since I felt $250+ was still too pricey for my use.
For under $100, picked up a R200! Thanks. |

For me they are more of an emergency storage in case you are out of external card space. With card prices dropping again it is better to get extra cards instead, especially if you have two slots. Last edited by himarty; 12-17-2012 at 03:17 PM.. |

Last week I got a battery returned because Canon warranty said there is nothing wrong with it. Before that, with another camcorder, they gave me a new battery. Non-OEM batteries from Amazon or eBay have worked fine for me. R200/R20/R21 uses BP-110: Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb...%20battery eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_s...on&_sop=15 You can add the word "mAh" in search, and go for the highest one from a reputable seller. If mAh is not listed assume it is a standard battery. |

I recently picked up a used Kodak Zi8 to do YouTube reviews and I'm finding that while it has a fantastic macro mode, it doesn't handle midrange shots very well. The R20 seems like a good deal for maybe a better camera... but I just got the damn thing...
Screw it, grabbed the R20. Will keep whichever suits my needs best and sell the other. Thanks! Last edited by detection; 12-17-2012 at 04:15 PM.. |

Grabbed the R20 for $100. Was considering it when it was $125, but couldn't resist at $100. Considered the R200 for $90 as 8GB for $10 is meh, but with my luck I'd pull out the SD card to transfer files and then forget to put it back. I'd be caught wanting to record something and not have any memory so it's a good insurance policy for $10. Plus I prefer the black of the R20 over the silver of the R200.
