Yes and no, they used to be horrible but the past 5 years I've had very good experience with them, your experience hasn't been as good obviously.

They are incredibly durable and about the same price as standard AR-15 magazines.

I also like the covers that come with them. I do not care for the windowed versions myself which are more expensive than standard PMAGs.

I know this sounds sissy but I have a .22 "Assualt Rifle" a GSG-5 along with my AR. It has a spring on the side that you can pull that helps aid the loading process and makes it load quicker. I noticed with the AR after loading about 100 rounds I noticed it was much harder to load. I mean I could load 100 rounds in my .22 LR (5 mags) by the time I could get 30 in my AR. Do metal/new mags have a break in time for them. I mean they seemed tough to put in.

I believe PMAGs are easier to load, but I don't really have any issues with any magazine I own except my 33-round Glock magazines.
