Thread Details

If you receive one of the Amex Rebate Card, is it possible to get cash on it? I understand the card can not be used on ATM, but I wonder if any SDers know a creative way to get cash? If so, how?

Or if not, can you use the card to pay credit card bills? Big Grin

Thanks.

You should find an answer to your question here:

Proxy # is the only definitive way to know which is which.

However, usually you can tell by the ship dates. The cards typically arrive 3 to 5 days after the ship date.

I think Serve is personally better than Amazon Payments because you don't get with the $1 pre-authorization fee I mentioned above. That can add up if you have a bunch of MasterCard/Visa prepaid cards to cash out like me.

Serve suspended both of my accounts, along with countless other people's accounts because of some "system-related" verification error. I think a lot of people were reading too much into why their accounts were suspended, when it was just a fluke thing. I got one unlocked somehow without ever sending in the verification documents... and the other one was relatively easy to unlock once I sent in the paperwork. The only thing that wasn't easy was getting the "verification" department on the line to get my account fully unlocked. The wait time was over an hour because so many people had the same issue.
So is the Serve system fine now with the verification issue that it had previously? I had my account suspended a few weeks ago...it got suspended two times within a day of each other. Must have been the same issue others had. Got it reopened pretty easily without having to send the documents they were asking for, but I've stayed away from them since then. I've been afraid they were locking down on the prepaid card deposit/withdrawal or something. So everything's ok with them now?

I haven't had any issues lately. I just used that method to make a $380 deposit recently.

So is it OK to setup a Serve account now and starting loading the account with some of these Visa GC and others I have got from other rebates I've done? As long as we don't do too many daily our accounts should be fine or is Serve still locking accounts immediately after loading a Visa GC and trying to withdraw to bank account? Are they still requiring SS# to setup account?

You should be fine as long as you don't unload a couple of grand overnight. laugh out loud

I don't think they are locking accounts immediately after loading from a Visa GC, because I just did that and they didnt relock mine.

Yes, they still require a SS # to sign-up. Most prepaid cards do because of government regulations. You may want to look around online for Serve Promos because sometimes they give you $25 to open a new account.

Should register my Visa GCs first at gowallet.com or giftcardmall.com? Does it matter? I've set up an account at gowallet already, but have not registered any cards there yet.

ugh I hate these rebate cards.. Why don't they send us checks anymore?

I am guessing they get some sort of kickback for using visa or amex?

I actually never used GoWallet before (looks pretty cool though), but it's definitely not a prerequisite for clearing out your MasterCard/Visa prepaid cards.

As soon as you load funds from the Visa Card, there will be a $0.00 balance on the card with a hold from Serve. You can verify this by going to the tracking site on the back of the card... or using GoWallet, I suppose.

After the money shows up as an available balance in your Serve account (instantly), you can either deposit it immediately into your bank account or wait a few days and then deposit it.

I don't think you'll have an issue with your account being locked, as long as you don't try to add like 15 funding sources overnight and then immediately delete them after you wipe the cards.

I think it only allows you to have 4 debit cards linked to your account at any one given time. So, after you clear them out, wait a day or two, delete one card, wait another day, delete a few more, and then add your new ones, etc.

I was asking if we needed to register these cards because in that Staples GC thread it was mentioned over and over of how we need to register with same address each visa gc and use same address in Serve otherwise it wouldn't work. Even in the wiki in that thread it provides the steps on how to do it and first step is so register at giftcardmall.

Oh, okay. Now I get what you were asking...

Yeah, if you got those Staples Visa Gift Cards, they were fulfilled by GiftCardMall, so with those particular cards, you need to register online in order to make online purchases.

Most online companies do a verification to make sure that the billing address matches up with the credit card. If you got a rebate prepaid card, they already put in the billing information for you (the information you provided on the rebate).

In the Serve Account, your prepaid cards billing address info must match your Serve Account's billing address. So, let's say your girlfriend got a prepaid card at her address for a rebate, and you got one at your address.... you couldn't try loading her card into your account because it wouldn't match.

Tried Amazon payment a few months back and got declined. You can try paypal and get a 3% ding, but I am not going to do that.

You can only do a payment for $1 less than the amount on the AMEX Card.

They charge a $1 pre-authorization fee on the card... so if you do the exact card balance, it will exceed the available amount on the card and thereby decline.

Ok thanks for the clarification. So with the Visa GCs (not the Staples offfer ones) that we get from the various software rebates we do no need to do any preregister with those and we can load them right away when we get them as long as the billing address (the address we used for submitting our rebates) is the same for the Visa GCs and our Serve account correct?

Ah, thanks for this info. I didn't realize this. I will try again.
