I would have turned in so many broken guns. I'm sure pawn shops made a killing on the buyback.
A friend of mine did exactly that a few years ago. It was a city buyback, they didn't state a limit, and were paying $100 each. He took in something like 30 guns, all worth less than $100 each, most non functional, and they had to pay him, even though they tried to get out of it. He made the paper, and his government employer even tried to find something they could discipline him for over it, unsuccessfully.
In future buybacks they limited it to 1, iirc, and stopped giving cash, much to his dismay.
Despite what your Mama told you, violence does solve problems.
However, I don't think Howard Kurtz would be opining for my white-ass to get out of a DC lockup if I were caught brandishing an unloaded high cap magazine without a weapon anywhere in my possession.
"In the 13 months I've been in the Senate, it has become apparent to me the single thing that Democrats hate and fear the most - and that is when they're forced to tell the truth. It makes their heads explode. An awful lot of the Democrats wanted exactly what George W. Bush wanted, exactly what John Boehner wanted, exactly what Mitch McConnell wanted, which is to stop the raising of the debt ceiling, but they wanted to be able to tell what they view as their foolish, gullible constituents back home they didn't do it."
