I would have turned in so many broken guns. I'm sure pawn shops made a killing on the buyback.
A friend of mine did exactly that a few years ago. It was a city buyback, they didn't state a limit, and were paying $100 each. He took in something like 30 guns, all worth less than $100 each, most non functional, and they had to pay him, even though they tried to get out of it. He made the paper, and his government employer even tried to find something they could discipline him for over it, unsuccessfully.
In future buybacks they limited it to 1, iirc, and stopped giving cash, much to his dismay.
