Funny/not so funny thing, I luv these type of historical shows, but the kids get bored quick unless it involves a talking yellow sponge and a pink starfish

The Ken Burns series is the best, in fact I would venture to say one of the best documentaries ever made. It was 8 years in the making, inspired by the Pulitzer Prize winning historical novel The Killer Angels. It is worth the extra $. The elegiac scenes as soldiers' letters from both sides are read, thousands of archival photographs, historian Shelby Foote (who has since passed but his appearance gave him notoriety), and all the actors Burns recruited, make this one so worthwhile.

Lawrence Chamberlain, a languages professor turned officer who held Little Round Top at Gettysburg is one of my heroes now!

If you have an Instant Video credit from one of the many SDs that have come up lately, I suggest at least watching the first episode, then decide.

And if you enjoy Burns' The Civil War, be sure to watch his other series, too. The Dust Bowl just aired on PBS, and I really enjoyed the Prohibition earlier this year. He's got one on Baseball, jazz, WWII, the National Parks, and there is one on the Central Park Five he's working on with his daughter next.

I saw the Central Park 5 one tonight. Not quite up to Baseball, and it was much more of a standard documentary, but he told a very clear story of a very messy situation. He was also able to get all five accused men to talk (four on-screen, one audio only) and gave the story the full before-middle-after treatment it deserved. Fascinating movie.

Thx OP.....I daydreamed through most my HS classes on this subject.
