how to ship a car to vietnam or china?

For more details I'd suggest you contact the shipping company as they can give you a quote. Just know that many countries will charge you some form of duty/tax to bring in a car so it may not be worth it.

and the countries will have laws about registration, taxes, bringing the vehicle up to necessary collision standards, etc

Plus the countries might have import duties too.

bro that article is from 1997. i am not trying to do anything illegal, i just want to get everything straight so that there will be no hiccups along the way and the container won't get held up in customs because i missed a step.

I don't know about China. But, I hear it costs A LOT of money to ship a car into Vietnam. Due to taxes and duties, I hear that a car will often end up costing double to triple the cost. So, I heard that a regular $30k Honda will cost about $100k in Vietnam.

As a side note, it goes to show you how rich some of the VC ppl are in Vietnam. Many of them are driving around Mercedes and BMW's when it's like triple the cost. Yet, probably 95% of its ppl are in poverty.....that's communism for you!

That's most certainly not true, sorry.

freight forwarder here. getting it out of the u.s. and to the port in hcm or china is easy. you just need to have the pink slip so u.s. customs can sign off on it and approve the export. getting your container out of the port in vietnam or china is a different story. you or your agent should already have a contact in customs to let you know what kind of paperwork and how much money (duty, red envelope, etc.) they will require to let the auto in. be aware that those numbers could change before, during, and after the car arrives in vietnam or china. they'll give you grief but, as you know, money solves all problems over there.

this is exactly what i've been told and what i figured as well. corruption is what dooms them but as long as you got the connections you're good
