Help me ship a road bike for cheap
I'm looking to ship a disassembled road bike that I bought on eBay from Georgia to New York for cheap. Do you guys know of any discount sites I could use for cheap shipping rates? UPS and Fedex quoted me over $100 to ship the bike. Any help would be appreciated

It used to be cheap to put it in a bike box and take it on an airplane with you, but that was before all the baggage fees stuff started.

Yeah, that sounds high. What size is the frame, do you have it in the smallest possible bike box? ie a box for a 22" frame is bigger than one for a 16" frame.

Did you look at fedex ground? That was the cheapest when I shipped my bike many moons ago. And many fedex places are only designed for express shipments.

Whoa! I used to ship extremely heavy/large items (think 50 - 75 lbs) via Greyhound for about $30 - $35. Is that an option for you? You have to have someone on the other end that you trust picking it up at their local Greyhound station. I used this option many times on Ebay and just explained that there was no other choice given the weight.

The frame is a 54 and I do have it in the smallest box possible

What about Megabus or Amtrak? Likely all would be less expensive.
I would also call and talk to UPack/UShip: 1-800-240-7422 I think they might end up being a lot less expensive if you're just able to get it put onto someone else's truck heading that way. Last edited by PghBunch; 12-20-2012 at 04:26 AM.. |

Update: I was able to ship it via UPS using a middleman for $54
|
