IMO, the black levels aren't bad. I've got the 42" and the previous year's 32"

I have no backlight bleed on either one and am more than satisfied with them.

I bought this TV then read CNET's review and cancelled. Not buying a TV with a poor picture. Would rather have a Panasonic plasma.

This Tv has awesome reviews from 200+ customers who bought this TV ...I think Picture quality is good...

Would love to demo in house, but will hold off till the Plasma sub $500

I own this TV. I would take CNET review with a grain of salt. I bought this TV a few months ago on amazon with $100 credit but as good as this deal. So far Iam happy with this set. No issue with black levels whatsoever for me so far. Keep in mind that the colors are more richer than Samsungs' are. So if you already own a Samsung you might have to give some time to yourself to get adjusted.

update: I watch netflix on this TV as well. picture quality is pretty good.

So Amazon either has the price $50 lower and no promo credit, or $50 higher with credit? I could see where either one could be a good choice, depending on if you had something in mind to buy later or not, since the credit expires in 3 months.

Would an S-PVA panel (Samsung 39"-46") be better? Seems to be the best compromise:

Problem is, Samsung uses several different panel brands. Would they all be S-PVA, or just the Samsung panels?

You can gamble that the price will drop to 599 in the next 14 days. $100 amazon credit is probably just as good as cash to most people though.
