Who in the name of Bob wants an 80 inch TV for "casual" viewing? I mean seriously?
Amazon sellers have been floating the newer version of this (with the 3D) for $4,550 to $4,900. Wondering if the only difference is the 3D? Would be nice coupled with that Onkyo 809 receiver, some Energy Take 5's... yummy Christmas Cheer!
Benq w7000 for ~$1600 will be more than bright enough with a small screen size such as 80" I have it with a 130" / 1.0 gain screen and it is still fairly bright. With a projector however, you have to worry about it getting dimmer / buying bulbs etc. I wouldn't use it for everyday tv watching. I use it just for movies.
well it was all nice and everything, till i saw all the cables on the media tower, and the stands for the tower speakers.... at that point i woulda just gone...with in wall speakers... those towers like that!! look horrid! poor attempt on the sound setup and media tower :/
why buy this when you can get a 120" using a projector for about $3K?
Bingo, this is into Sony HW50 and Epson 5020 territory. You could have a motorized 120-200" screen and much more flexibility than a rigid, fragile TV, should you want to change your setup down the road. Anyone considering this should find a high end home theater store and see for themselves.
What do you mean upscale to 3d? If the source is not 3D, no TV can convert them to 3D. This is not like a DVD being upscaled to 1080p by certain players.
Not true. LG (and some other) 3D tvs can convert 2D content to 3D using essentially the same process that non-3D filmed movies are converted in post. It works surprisingly well (i.e. not completely awful).
