$300 -> $50.00

$500 -> $90.00

Sign up for Dell's Advantage Loyalty Program, or use your existing Advantage membership, for an additional 10% off (rebated later in the form of Dell GC).

So, assuming that you purchase the Dell 660 with no options and no sales tax, you could buy a new i5 Dell 660 for $400 with $70 left over in gift certificates. I.e., the net cost of this deal is approximately $330.

Even lower with student discounts, military discounts, and other negotiated discounts. Lower still with rebates from cashback sites and from your credit card company.

One person reported negotiating a price over the chat line of $392, with tax he paid $415. With cashback rebates on the GC purchase (FW, e%%tes, Mr. Re%%tes), Dell $75 bonus GC, Dell Advantage 10% promo, and credit card reward points; the net cost of his deal might have been under $300. Yes, under $300!

My transactions were smooth: ordered 400 egift card, got it and the 75 egift card in minutes. Registered for Dell Advantage. Went to dell and put the system in my cart, added my Dell Advantage and saved My Cart. Click on chat support to use the egift cards. Chat guy cut and paste a few offers, I politely declined. I confirmed the Dell Advantage 2 day ship, 10% cash back, and system specs, took about 45 minutes from egift ordering to finish...Initially he said I got another 2% off from Dell Advantage, but then he took it off, no big deal to me...I got charged $1 for using Dell Advantage, I think there was a -$1 in My Cart making it net zero, again no big deal...Got the order confirmation in email and looked up the order -- said Delivery method: 7 day delivery Frown . Chatted up order support and they quickly corrected it to 2nd day ship...so anyways $418.88 for me in CA, plus 10% coming ($45)...thanks SDers...

What have you been reading?

From what I've been reading, selling a Microsoft based phone is harder than selling kryptonite to superman.
Im not here to argue with you,

We all know Microsoft is "the big evil bad guy" in teh world of software. and yes they have made mistakes. But I think they have come back pretty strong. Window 7 is a good system , Windows 8 is a good system if u like touchscreen and u like flashy apps and graphics.

Im really not an expert on this, but without Steve jobs i see Apple losing market share. I see Microsoft making a strong comeback and from the articles I read Windows based phones will be the future.

Listen, my son has an android based phone but he loves Windows 8 so muchm he downloaded an app that makes his phone look like a Windows 8 phone.
I see this as the future, just my .02

as of 5pm EST OOS. too late, now I have to return my GC, I did however scored a i7 OC to 4.1GHz Alienware Auora R4 with 4TB of 6GPS HD, dual 555 grafx, BlueRay Burner, and DVD burner, 8 Gig of Ram, Liquid Cool for around $1,000. It was a S&D with 25% Off and free shipping. But this is a better deal if you dont need a high end gaming machine.

Not working:

The Graphics Card selected requires a Win8 Compliant BIOS Chassis. Please select a different option from either or both of these.

Anyone seeing this?

Confirmed that this deal is dead. Chassis # is no longer valid in Dell's system, hence the graphics card error.

Did you guys see the deal on the XPS 8500 with the i7 processor that came up a few weeks ago for $650? I'm kind of regretting not pulling the trigger on that one. Any reason you didn't go for that deal? Sounds like it was what you both were looking for, but I'm no expert on PC hardware these days.

Link to dead XPS 8500 thread with specs:

Gift cards had not arrived. Pulled the trigger on this one will get and extra monitor with the extra money.

There is no refund option for gift card if it was sent out. I placed a duplicate gift card order before due to slow internet connection. Called Dell many times, directed to different departments. At first they told me they had it handled. But several days later, I got the card by mail. Then they told me there was no refund for gift card if it was shipped out.

Your point about me being a vocal minority shouting about how much I love Windows 8 is invalid.
It is a vocal minority who comes to the defense of Windows 8 when people are saying they don't like it. Let's go back to your original invitation to a discussion on Windows 8, which was, "Considering you don't lose any functionality at all and simply gain features, could you elaborate on this?" I don't think that was a fair representation of Windows 8. And I have explained why, as you have requested.
Quote from jaytalent View Post :
I didn't come to this thread and post "Windows 8 is great, you must buy!". I simply replied to a post about Windows 8 being the reason to not pull the trigger on this deal. I just like to point out FUD when I see it.
Fear, uncertainty, and doubt is certainly a part of Windows 8. It is baked into the product. I, in fact, pointed out this very fact myself. A more accurate description was that you were trying to debunk the FUD surrounding Windows 8. I'll admit, you've got a tougher sell.
Quote from jaytalent View Post :
As far as my opinion of Windows 8 goes, your wrong in assuming I love it. I definitely like it and where its headed, but something as simple as an operating system doesn't earn my love.
The feel I got from your posts, and please feel free to correct me, is that you liked the vision of Windows 8. The unification of tablet and desktop. I think it is a decent vision to have, but I have to say that Microsoft pulled it off very badly. The interface is acceptable for a tablet. It is ridiculous for a desktop. I give it no credit as being a forward-looking vision of where computing should be because of the poor execution of that vision.
Quote from jaytalent View Post :
However, I don't think its any worse than Windows 7 simply because they replaced the start menu with Live Tiles. I enjoy being able to see information without having to open apps. And as far as performance goes, Windows 8 outperforms 7 in numerous ways.
We strongly disagree on the Metro UI. But I'll give some credit to performance. They shut off more unnecessary services, which helps. They improved boot time. (Then again, I didn't see that myself with a solid state boot drive, but I'm sure it is there.) Good incremental steps, but it could have been rolled into a SP or Windows 7.1 and was hardly worthy of a whole new release.
Quote from jaytalent View Post :
You're arguments are kind of funny to say the least. You mention how you don't like the change from Microsoft, but bring up their past failures and lack of change as a fault. You also mention how Microsoft makes crappy products, but you ask for a PC with Windows 7 versus just going with a Mac or Linux. That is questionable to say the least, if Microsoft products are as poor as you claim.
The specific failures I mentioned actually were designed to illustrate two things: 1] Newest version is clearly not the best. You should not go to Windows 8 because it was released if it does not offer you compelling value over Windows 7. There is a price to pay, direct or indirect, when you choose Windows 8 over Windows 7. 2] Just because Microsoft has a "vision" doesn't mean it is a correct vision. And even if it is a correct vision for Microsoft doesn't mean it is a correct vision for the end users. They can unify the tablet and the desktop all they want to be competitive, but they better give me a user interface that isn't like poo.
Quote from jaytalent View Post :
I am really contemplating whether its worth my time to debate something as complex as the future of a company's decision regarding computing with someone so shortsighted. That's not to insult you, as you could be very intelligent for all I know, but based on this thread it seems you lack the ability to see anything beyond your personal needs.
We're coming at this from different angles. I could care less about Microsoft's strategy, positioning, marketing, or grand vision of desktop unification. What I do care about is my own operating system experience, and my own support experience for others. I could be equally non-insulting and say something like, why would I want to argue with someone who is too busy looking at Microsoft's competitiveness and forward-looking vision than to actually see the fear and loathing that their new product has actually delivered and how real people respond to it?

As long as Microsoft makes good products, I'm their friend, and they can have whatever smarty pants vision for the future they want. If they deliver a steaming pile of poo and try to sell it as their vision of the future, I don't care. To me, it is still a steaming pile of poo and just because they wish it to be a success doesn't influence my desire to use it one bit.
