And you can save a bit more by purchasing Dell eGift cards.
Purchase Amount -> Bonus Dell GC (combinable by phone or chat, not on line)
$300 -> $50.00
$400 -> $75.00
$500 -> $90.00

Sign up for Dell's Advantage Loyalty Program, or use your existing Advantage membership, for an additional 10% off (rebated later in the form of Dell GC).

So, assuming that you purchase the Dell 660 with no options and no sales tax, you could buy a new i5 Dell 660 for $400 with $70 left over in gift certificates. I.e., the net cost of this deal is approximately $330.

Even lower with student discounts, military discounts, and other negotiated discounts. Lower still with rebates from cashback sites and from your credit card company.

One person reported negotiating a price over the chat line of $392, with tax he paid $415. With cashback rebates on the GC purchase (FW, e%%tes, Mr. Re%%tes), Dell $75 bonus GC, Dell Advantage 10% promo, and credit card reward points; the net cost of his deal might have been under $300. Yes, under $300!

---------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Note: The original price was $499.99, reduced to $449.99 (as noted by several people below).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I could not install the Win8Pro. It kept saying you already have windows8. What am I doing wrong?
If I tried to do a clean install using the ISO, it kept saying invalid product id. It would not even ask me for product code. Kept saying invalid product id..

thanks in advance for help.
Windows Technical Support did the install for me. They had to go through and change the system defaults back to Windows 7 several times during the process, in order to make the Windows 8 Pro conversion. Give them a call at 1-877-254-4698.

Otherwise, Dell technical support at 1-800-822-8965 should be able to assist you,

I used EaseUs Todo Backup Free to clone my Dell Inspiron 660 hard drive with Windows 8, including all partitions, to an Intel 520 120GB Solid State Drive.
http://www.todo-backup.com/produc...ftware.htm

Here's how:

Install your Solid State Drive
Install and start EaseUs Todo Backup Free
Select Disk clone
Select your original drive as the source and click Next
Select your Solid State Drive as the destination
Check box "Optimize for SSD"
Click Proceed
After the clone is complete, shut down your computer
Unplug your original hard drive's SATA cable from the motherboard and plug your Solid State Drive's cable in its place (the SATA 0 connector on the motherboard).

I found one minor anomaly after cloning the drive. The original 40MB partition labeled "OEM" that includes the Dell diagnostics was relabeled "DIAGS" and assigned drive letter D. I removed the drive letter to keep this partition hidden during normal operation as it was on the original drive:

Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools: Create and format disk partitions
Right-click DIAGS D > Change Drive Letter and Paths > Remove

The Dell diagnostics still work when selected from the boot menu (F12 when booting the computer).

I found that when a drive is added, or moved to another SATA connector, the computer must be restarted twice for Windows to recognize the new drive or location. Then everything works fine.

It appears that SATA 0 (the port to which the factory installed hard drive is connected) is the only SATA connection that supports 6Gb/s. The other three operate at 3Gb/s.

Maybe if U use Acronis True Image, u can get the Exact Clone result.Big Grin

I did a clean install with windows 7 and hooked up a ultrasharp 23" u2312hm.

But the text is really fuzzy, colors are bad, etc.

Anyone know what the problem is? Everything was fine with the stock Windows 8. This is unbearable. Could it be the nvidia drivers? I installed the drivers straight from cd.

I just received my promotional 10% card today in the mail. I had been checking email for it, since I thought it was an e-card. I was happy to receive it though, because I had been thinking it was going to be a hassle to follow up with Dell.

Ordered the second day of the deal, shipped 12/28, promotional card received 1/22.

Thanks for the update. I too have been checking my email, assuming that's how they would deliver it.
