And you can save a bit more by purchasing Dell eGift cards.
Purchase Amount → Bonus Dell GC (combinable by phone or chat, not on line)
$300 → $50.00
$400 → $75.00
$500 → $90.00

Sign up for Dell's Advantage Loyalty Program, or use your existing Advantage membership, for an additional 10% off (rebated later in the form of Dell GC).

So, assuming that you purchase the Dell 660 with no options and no sales tax, you could buy a new i5 Dell 660 for $400 with $70 left over in gift certificates. I.e., the net cost of this deal is approximately $330.

Even lower with student discounts, military discounts, and other negotiated discounts. Lower still with rebates from cashback sites and from your credit card company.

One person reported negotiating a price over the chat line of $392, with tax he paid $415. With cashback rebates on the GC purchase (FW, e%%tes, Mr. Re%%tes), Dell $75 bonus GC, Dell Advantage 10% promo, and credit card reward points; the net cost of his deal might have been under $300. Yes, under $300!

---------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Note: The original price was $499.99, reduced to $449.99 (as noted by several people below).

You don't use the dell advantage program when buying the gift cards, only during purchasing the computer.

i used dell advantage program and it took off a dollar and gave me free 2 day shipping.

is that wrong?!

Item Description: Your Dell Advantage benefits have been applied and $1 discounted from your primary order.

ok i see a dollar has been taken off. But when i clicked on "view detail", i get,

"Dell Advantage $1 off discount. Your Advantage benefits have been applied including a 5% Dell Promo eGift card (sent in 10 – 20 days, excludes taxes and shipping) card and free second business day shipping

Expires Wednesday, January 01, 2014"

It is 5% instead of 10%?

Thanks OP!

I asked for a student discount and they knocked a little off the system to bring it to $440.99.

$440.99 - $75 (free gift card with $400 dell gc purchase) - $41 (10% advantage gift card) = $324.99

Seems like a great deal to me. 2'nd day shipping is nice too.

I got a discount too without any prompting. I had to speak with the online chat rep to get the $400 & $75 Dell GC to apply. The chat rep quoted a price of $441.99. I would let them know that "your friend" got a quote of $440 or so and that you want the same thing.

yes they plug in to the SATA ports like any other hard drive. what you'll need is a 2.5" to 3.5" converter to fit it in a regular hard drive slot. most SSDs come with one of those, though
