And you can save a bit more by purchasing Dell eGift cards.
Purchase Amount → Bonus Dell GC (combinable by phone or chat, not on line)
$300 → $50.00
$400 → $75.00
$500 → $90.00

Sign up for Dell's Advantage Loyalty Program, or use your existing Advantage membership, for an additional 10% off (rebated later in the form of Dell GC).

So, assuming that you purchase the Dell 660 with no options and no sales tax, you could buy a new i5 Dell 660 for $400 with $70 left over in gift certificates. I.e., the net cost of this deal is approximately $330.

Even lower with student discounts, military discounts, and other negotiated discounts. Lower still with rebates from cashback sites and from your credit card company.

One person reported negotiating a price over the chat line of $392, with tax he paid $415. With cashback rebates on the GC purchase (FW, e%%tes, Mr. Re%%tes), Dell $75 bonus GC, Dell Advantage 10% promo, and credit card reward points; the net cost of his deal might have been under $300. Yes, under $300!

---------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Note: The original price was $499.99, reduced to $449.99 (as noted by several people below).

Seems like I'm one of the few that still has their status as "In Progress"... If it doesn't go through soon I'm going to cancel my eGift card!

Thanks for your quick answer. I have 2 more questions hope someone can answer.

If I buy this desktop, format its hardrive to take out the Windows 8, install SSD, then install Windows 7 into SSD. Will this work?

Nvidia GeForce 1GB DDR3 GT620 Win8 <---- it says Win8 at the end. Does it mean that this video card only work with Windows 8? Does it work with Windows 7?

Thanks alot!!!

Question 1 - Yes.
Question 2 - No. There should be drivers online for Windows 7.

Thanks, OP. I really did not want to buy a new desktop right now, but this looked like a good deal for what we need. I am excited about everything but Windows 8.

I could not get the online chat to work, so I had to call a rep to apply the second egift card. She processed everything through from my cart though and verified that the Dell Advantage was on the order.

Thanks to everyone in this thread that helped out with links to the egift card deal (bought $400 card to get $75 promo and that basically covered after tax) and the Dell Advantage promo (should yield ~$45 in a few weeks).

Any idea the amount of space in this PC? Thinking of swapping out the PSU and GPU to make it a decent gaming pc.

I am going crazy trying to complete the purchase through Dell Advantage. It's not working for me.

When I use OP's link to add it to the cart, it stays in a different cart. When I go via DELL advantage link, it's a separate member cart and I can't move the item to member cart or get DELL advantage to apply. Also, I can't find this item while in DELL Advantage member shopping search. Tell me I am not crazy...

Their phone support isn't open and chat is not working either.

Please help!!!

After running it for the last month I actually prefer Win8 to 7. A couple of hotkeys WIn+x and Win+i helps get to missing options/

Is it possible to upgrade this system later? What sort of motherboards do these Dell systems have? Thanks.
I dont think you want to get a system like this if you think you will be doing motherboard upgrades in the future. This is a basic disposable system that will get a basic user through a year or two. For the price it is pretty good imo.

Well, drats. I got almost the same for $570 or so from lenovo that was scratch and dent refurbed, but third gen i7 and Windows 7 (I don't want windows 8)

I guess it ends up being about an equivalent deal as the rest of the specs are the same.

Wud have pulled the trigger if i cud get Win 7.. Is there a way we could change the OS i didnt find an option.

I wouldn't trust opinions from trolls like this on Windows 8. Just like he couldn't spend two seconds to correctly type "Would" and "Could", I'm pretty sure that he just based his opinion on the fact that he is too lazy to spend the two seconds to learn how to use one of the easiest operating systems on the planet. Either that or he is incapable of learning a new OS and spelling, which probably wouldn't likely be a coincidence.

Don't let the fact that this PC has Windows 8 be the reason you don't pull the trigger. Try Windows 8 out for yourself.
