These are awesome if you have young babies, or just need a little white noise to help yourself sleep. Two speeds. I have two of these for my 9 month old's nursery.

4.5/5 stars average rating with over 2200 reviews.

Definitely worth it. I bought one from target.com last month....it's been wonderful!

I'm actually skeptical especially at $40 even though it's only $5 more than the last deal, but I'll give it a shot.

Will one of these fill a room at a pretty load volume or do you need two?

It would be nice if it had a timer to turn off so you don't sleep through an alarm.
Depends on the room size and what your trying to drown out, but I've found one sufficient for a normal sized room with moderate noises.

Pair it with a cheap ~$10 timer like this [amazon.com] if sleeping through your alarm becomes a problem... probably wont happen though, unless your alarm is set to slow jams or something Smilie, very loud jarring sounds can still be heard Big Grin

Or if you own a smart phone, you could just download an app for free.

That may work for some people but digital white noise has a different tone to it than white noise that is mechanically generated.
I don't find digital white noise to be pleasing to my ears or relaxing at all. I much prefer white noise that is mechanically generated.

I second that. I have tried both, and this sound machine murders any app either on my iphone or my Macbook Pro. There is no comparison in the way this machine works when drowning out noises while I'm trying to sleep. I have purchased 3 of these machines within the last few years, and the funny thing is I don't own a single one. 2 were gifts, and I lost the other one to divorce. Here's to a 4th machine!
Resources: I'm a sleep technologist who sleeps during the day, and have tried several apps and this exact machine. If you sleep during the day, or have trouble sleeping at night, then you should buy this machine ASAP. You can thank or rep me later when you're actually sleeping through the night. Or in my case, the day.

I don't get it. What's wrong with using a $10 fan?

I use a fan also when it is warm but not in the winter.

I don't like using fans now since it's so cold. The noise generator doesn't make the room cold. And it uses less electricity.

I'm college student and we actually use a white noise generator to block out noise in a running room in my lab, but we have it on the loudest setting. I've never actually tried sitting down in a room w/ one of these on a quieter volume, but how does this help people? It sounds like static and I think I'd be annoyed if that sound was constantly on when I was trying to sleep.

I use You Tube for my white noise. Search "12 Hours of White Noise". Does the trick for me.
