I have this with gigabit ethernet, and Tomato installed. For under $20, this router is amazing. I actually like it better than my Buffalo ddwrt wzr-hp-g300nh router that was $75. I haven't had any issues with it yet.

I bought this the last deal. They are essentially impossible to brick and run both ddwrt and tomato. I run mine right now as a NAS/torrent client pretty successfully with an external drive. Even though it is 100mbit I have no problem maxing it wirelessly.
If you search the other deals here you will find the flashing instructions for both. |

I just bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Networks-N3...B00823RNUC a while ago. I went from 2Mbps to around .5 Mbps (Ethernet to wireless), and it frequently drops out. I have this router: AT&T 2701HG-B 2Wire. Do you think upgrading to this router will solve alot of problems? I am techie, but I have no idea about anything networking related. I barely know how to port forward.

Is there greater stability on Tomato? In the end I'm probably going to go with a used WNR3500L v1, since they're priced about the same a F7D7301 and has been much more popular. Lies, damned lies, and contrast ratios.

If you're using this with a desktop, don't use a little dinky USB wifi adapter like that, get a real card with a real RP-SMA antenna (or three.) If you're using it with a laptop, look into upgrading the intenal card (probably a Mini PCIe card, full-height or half-height.) -Disclaimer: if you're using an HP laptop, make sure that it allows you to change the card. They use "whitelisting" in the BIOS to only allow specific device IDs.
