I am tired of the signal dropping to PCs that are upstairs. I wasn't sure how I would be able to retrofit the house with wired ethernet without making holes in walls. |

[Quick Edit] Actually you don't need a powerline adapter with a switch built in, the Router would already have a switch. Last edited by graymen2; 12-21-2012 at 04:34 PM.. |

Got mine already. Was able to flash it with DD-WRT (eko builds dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_f7d7302.bin first then dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin). This seems to have been a great upgrade from my WRT54G that was failing to hold a signal to the restroom of my studio. I tested streaming a 720p mkv off of a 64GB flash drive in the USB port and it didn't have any hitches playing via Samba.
As a note, I had to add a rule to iptables (iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE) to get port forwarding working. |

I to was able to flash dd-wrt onto it:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/17/11) big (SVN revision 17084M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko) That's what i went with. I used this youtube video as a guide since it was my first time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi3w7ewYTNs very easy. testing out the ability to schedule the radio to turn off and on automatically and the nocatsplash hotspot feature. So far QoS seems to be working just fine. |

You can see here that the most recent update at the bottom of the list is svn18946 (4/07/12) http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/suppor...V24-K26%2F There are mini builds for initial flashing of both the F7D7301 and F7D7302, as well as the generic dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin and dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin Anyway, if you feel like upgrading the the latest build, there's no real danger, since this router has the fail-safe "CFE miniWeb Server" firmware loader mode. Lies, damned lies, and contrast ratios.

Heck at this point I'd get a few more to setup as wifi hotspots. I have it setup to throttle, turn off wireless after business hours and do a nocatsplash webpage for my sisters small business. Pretty exciting stuff for an 18$ router
