Why not just get Magic Jack?? The module is $39.95 and that includes the first year of service. After that, it's just $19.95 a year.

Ooma didn't play well with my Bright House Broadband.

Monthly cost?

Also, what is Ooma Premier?
It depends on where you live, but I've never seen it more than $7-$8/mo. In my area (CA) it is $4/mo

OOMA Premier is an optional $10/mo and it gives you quite a few extra features. See their website for a list of them.

Because you need your PC on all the time for that to work. With Ooma, you simply need to plug in an ethernet cable from your router/cable/dsl modem. I've had the original ooma when it first came out for $150 and its been working for the last 4 years without issues. I do not pay a monthly bill. The minimal monthly cost was introduced much later on. There is a link on ooma's website to calculate this cost.

Hmmm, I wonder if I should upgrade to the Telo. I think the only way it would be worth it is if I could get the money back by selling the Hub/Scout that I have now.

Do they still grandfather you in if you have the no fees Hub?

I wouldn't. I have the original ooma setup with no monthly fees and it works great. I just picked up two of these as last minute gifts! Thanks OP!

I have the Magicjack Plus. It's many times better than the original MJ. I run it in computerless mode.

My only gripe even to this day is that the Magicjack service (as well as google voice!) all block the various free conference call service numbers. It fails to call these numbers.. you can google for more information about this. It basically comes down to small telcos that charge a ridiculous surcharge to terminal these calls. However, OOMA does not block these types of calls.. neither does Skype.

However, if I could go back, I'd get the OOMA over the MJ+.

Also, I think OOMA must charge telco taxes now .. usually $3/month now? Past OOMA customers from over a year or 2 ago were grandfathered in and never have to pay these monthly taxes.

Sorry, any change of hardware will lose your grandfather plan. Directly from Ooma forum.

And Ooma device has no resale value because of the huge reactivation fee. (cost $80 to reactive device)
