I was strongly considering the asus zenbook equivalent of the macbook air, but I ended up getting sold on LCD panel quality and keyboard/trackpad with the macbook air. The zenbook's keyboard was recessed slightly and not backlit at the time, so it made typing awkward and trying to find the "special" laptop buttons (volume, brightness, etc) would've been more difficult. Also, being a *NIX user, I greatly appreciated native bsd being the back end of this machine, and not having to play with possibly having unsupported hardware if I were to wipe Windows off the zenbook and use a Linux distro. Laptops are very personal to people, and for some, it's not all about the main "computer" component hardware(comparing cpus, available ram, gpus, etc), but how they're assembled, the overall quality of all the components as one, and the user experience. People buy BMW, Audi, etc., cars for a reason (mostly) - not because they like getting "taken to the cleaners"

Well written. But you cannot convert folks who firmly believe macbooks are overpriced, with an internet argument. Also car analogy has been used in similar thread and it's not working.

Yeah, the touch pad is definitely worth it. Makes using a touchpad almost as easy as using a mouse.

I've owned a Samsung Series 9 , Asus Ultrabook, and Macbook Air. (I hate apple/macs by the way, because I don't like their OS).
For everyone who kills the laptop based on specs, they do really have to consider the value of the touchpad. Every touchpad should be able to function like a mac -- it simply does what you ask it to do. I honestly wish I could buy a macbook air and install windows 8 on it -- and have all the drivers and everything on it work great. (and not on bootcamp). On every ultrabook I've owned, the touchpad has just been a nightmare, my Zenbook -- I had it shipped back 5 times until they got the touchpad just right. Now I love it, but shipping it back to Asus so many times sucked. |

Zenbook UX32VD > MacAir
Yes, the keyboard and trackpad of the Air are better, but you really cannot compete with the i7 processor, the 1080p screen, essentially the pure power capabilities the zenbook has. MacAir looks nice on the outside, but the specs are outdated for a top of the line ultrabook. |

![]() I just found the first 2008 comment humorous, and the "shitty windows" comment moronic. I've "used" macbook pros (2011) in 13"/15", but as for the air. I rejected it after 10 minutes of "testing". I found it not to my liking. Each to his own. As for build quality, macs are built better than "some", but not all computers. I've had issues with new macs and friends have had repeated trips to get theirs repaired. It's surprising how many people run Win7 on their mac (some couldn't use it without windows), and they get one for the hardware, not OSx. Last edited by xcopy; 12-21-2012 at 08:05 AM.. |
