I think it's a preference. It's not my preference, but I've been told by several people that's why they have a mac (OSx effectively gets dumped).

I've had so many laptop from almost all vendors (except the no name guys) and don't see the draw, but to some, it's what they want I guess.

I find it funny when people compare laptops based on their specs, completely ignoring the OS they run on. Different OS require different resources. As a comparison, a quad core Android tablet is choppier than the dual core iPad, because iOS and Android require different resources (Source: CNET). Generally, a better spec'd Windows computer will run applications faster than a lower spec'd Mac, but the OS has a big part in that equation too.

I resisted the urge to buy this same deal around Thanksgiving time this year. I convinced myself that 4 gigs of ram and 128 gb hardrive will not be enough in 1-2 years from now. Nonetheless, it is a very tempting deal. But I will pass considering that my current MBP has 8 gigs of ram.

Also, to all those people bashing about the apple tax, I liken buying a mac to buying a lexus. Sure you will pay more, but you also get a lot more 'luxury' features, for example, the trackpad. If you can afford it, why not get it? This is coming from a long time windows user.

Last time this deal was around, I price matched to Best Buy and was able to get $20 in reward zone gift certificates from my purchase.

I don't disagree, in the end it comes down to personal preference and the MacAir is designed quite well for the prototypical user that just needs a computer to use. Hence probably why Apple makes significantly more money than Asus.

I stand by my points on the Zenbook, if you want to watch movies or need the processing power for work related software, then you have to go with the Zenbook. I do wish though that Asus would spend more time with their trackpad in particular, like you said, but I just go with a mouse since it's easier to use regardless of Apple or Asus trackpad.
